I have a 5x2 C&C cage with a 1×2 loft area and three boars. All three boars I got from the same enclosure at the pet store so are presumably related. I would say they are teenagers, not quite adults not babies. I got them in December and they were maybe a few months old. One minds his own business while the two that USED to cuddle up to eachother are now going head to head. I separated then when they started fighting in their temporary dog crate I put them in during cage cleaning time. I took one to cool down and put a divider in my C&C cage. The two boars are rumbling, strutting, teeth chattering, puffing their hair and trying to get to eachother.
Sometimes they'll lay next to eachother though, which I mistook as them just being dominant yet wanting to be together rather than aggressive, and when I reintroduced them, they tried fighting again and one cornered the other.
Below are the hooligans in question. Right two are the fighters.
With all that being said, is there ANY way to make this trio work? Will this sort itself out after they age some? I have no space to expand their cage. I have a 5×2 on TOP of their cage with my two older boars. I do have a circular pretty large playpen I use to take them to work with me that I could use for reintroductions on neutral ground.
