hi i’m a new guinea pig owner here. i’ve had my guinea pig for about almost a year now and just today at night (1am) when i heard my guinea pig make this low pitched wheezing sound. it doesn’t sound like a wheeze or a cracking sound like a URI but it sounds similar to a wheeze but more low pitched. it sounds like to me that my baby has a congested nose, but i am unclear. it is currently 4am and i don’t hear anymore sounds from my baby’s cage. i just put a steaming water near to his cage and hope for the best it resolves it. does anyone have any experience with this sound? it also kind of sounds like farting but coming from his nose. https://youtube.com/shorts/c7BWcbj7hvA?feature=share

There is the possibility of this being the start of an Upper Respiratory Infection. By the time difference, I'm going to guess that you are in Australia perhaps?

You'll need to monitor him and if his condition appears to worsen or symptoms seem to change or new ones appear, you should get him in to an exotics vet ASAP.

Definitely get him to a vet as soon as you can.

The steam may help him, but he'll need to be in a somewhat confined space for it to do anything -- a large box, or even a shower stall.

Not really a wheeze, but just sounds like my pig has a stuffy nose. Though the hay I feed him is pretty dry and dusty and there are no changes in eating, drinking, or behavior. (Plus, he does it only sometimes, and always after I give him new, clean, hay) Any change of brand in food/hay? It is a bit concerning that you suddenly heard him start making that sound. If symptoms worsen, or if he shows any other signs of discomfort, definitely call a vet. This could be the start of a URI
