Lots of poop

Can too much veggies cause lots of poop? Can lots of poop be considered diarreah(sp) or is piggie diarreah(sp) runny and messy like humans?

If the poops are formed and firm, they're normal. ALL piggies have lots and lots of poop. They have extremely fast metabolism, and it's totally normal for them to even poop while they're running around. They can't help it. Diarrhea would be much looser and runny somewhat like a human's.

Yah, you take a look at my piggie's cage after one day, you wouldn't even thought I had cleaned it....LOL

I feel the same way!! I cannot understand how so much poop could come out of such little animals. I clean it all up, walk out of the room for five minutes and when I come back in they have covered the whole cage in little poopies again!! Sometimes I wish they were like dogs and just made two big poops everyday... it may be a little grosser but sure easier to keep clean!!

Hm I'm glad this came up, I was wondering about diarrhea myself because my pigs like to go in a corner right underneath the ramp, and then walk all over it till it gets all clumped together and it scares me. But I don't think it's diarrhea.

Diarrhea is when the poop is watery, so don't worry. My piggie sleeps in a grass nest, and he spent so much time there his poop all formed into one solid mass! It's in the basement, drying out from all the pee so it doesn't start rotting...
By the time the next cleaning comes around I feel so bad because there's more poop than bedding!

When I see how much my boys shovel in their front ends, it's no wonder so much comes out the other end. Some of it is caecal pellets of half-digested hay that they eat again to finish digesting, but they still push a lot of fiber through their little systems, and most of it ends up on the cage floor. From there, it goes to the veggie and flower gardens, so the boys can help nourish the plants that will in turn feed them. I love recycling, don't you?

So much poop because piggies are nibblers and have to nibble on some sort of food 24/7. Their digestive tract has to keep moving so that is why your piggy is always eating all the time, whether its hay, pellets or veggies, which is why there is so much poop.
