long hair piggies...

my long haired piggies hair is getting matted on her fanny. She lets me brush her everywhere else, but if I get near her butt with the brush. she screams like Mary Kay is at the door! I tried washing her to loosen it up, but I got a mad, wet piggie. My vet says shave it off, well thats nice but I don't go around shaving piggies in my spare time. Can anyone give me some pointers? My sister in law is a stylist, and she hasn't a clue either!
What do I use and how to I go about it?

Give her a hair cut. During the warmer times of the year I give my long haired pigs haircuts. It helps keep them cool. The only way you'll get rid of the matted fur is trimming it. You might want to trim it more often to if it is getting matted.

I must admit I use my partners hair clippers and give mine a trim!!! Just because he too hates being groomed and it is easier this way.

I would suggest, as has already been suggested, to cut the coat, especially around her bottom because it could get urine/droppings stuck in it and become a serious problem. Before I got brave and clipped mine I would trim the long fur on their bottoms and legs and brush the rest.

I just gave my two long hairs a trim yesterday. It hit 98 degrees yesterday - I think they appreciated it

thanks guys, good advice as usual! I suckered my sister in law into helping me by bribeing her with a gourmet dinner... my husband helped too...three humans against one pig, we were outnumbered! I'm going to keep it much shorter from now on. When we were done she floomped down on my lap and purred!
