Hi!
Does anybody have any ideas on how to work linoleum squares into the cage design in lieu of the coroplast? My dad has 45 12"x12" squares with adhesive backs, and I was thinking about a wood box (the same shape as coroplast would be) tiled with these things or something. Any suggestions? Concerns?
Thanks!
Kelly

Yes, I've heard this works well.

You can use a wood frame, even a bookcase with its shelves taken out. Maybe you could use 6" pieces for the sides? 12" wouldn't allow them to see out. Just make sure that they are all tightly packed together, so that no urine, etc. can get through to the wood, and that the wood is safe and untreated, no finish or anything.

Thanks. I figured i would go with about a 6" side or so, since that would just leave me to cut the squares in half...a bit easier i assume :)

Do you think that if they are placed tightly enought together, they won't need any kind of sealant or anything on the cracks to keep liquid off of the wood? I figured that since they are actually used for floors, then it should be ok alone, or do flooring places seal it with something?
Oh, and I was just wondering...I saw on another post that people could tape the corners with duct tape. Can a guinea pig get sick if they chew on it? They probably wouldn't be able to get to it, would they...hmmm. Just out of curiosity, really!

Sorry, I forgot to add:
Can linoleum be scored to make flaps like coroplast?

Depends how thick the lino is. The lino I used for my cage was very thick and it had a stiff layer on top and a squidgy layer underneath, so yes it could be scored.

It should be able to, but you'll have to be careful not to cut too deep.

The corners are the things being taped, which are on the outside of the bin. Therefore, they won't be able to get to it. Not sure about its safety.

About the sealant, if it's really tight I think it should be ok. You can also lay some newspapers down each time under the shavings if you'd like. If you do use a sealant, make sure it is non-toxic.

Theres probably no need for the sealent

Awesome, thanks all. I will take pictures once completed!

Ok, please do! Good luck with the cage, do tell us how it goes!
