General Lily's medical thread

I just went to the manufacturer's website at marystails.com and this is what it says on the Serving Size section:

1 pump = 2 mg of Naturally Occurring CBD 100 mg CBD per Container
Thanks so much for your reply. He's been getting less than one pump every day, and it definitely seems to be helping. He was actually playing with a cardboard tube last night, throwing it around like he was a young pig again. It was so much fun to watch.

So by that math, I'm guessing a tube at once a day of 2mg, would be 50 days. I'm not gonna take that chance so I'll order a second one just to have on hand until I know for sure.

How is the cbd pen working so far?

For Leo...... It's definitely having an effect. How much, it's too early to say. This morning I caught him running for his fresh haypile.. and he really hasn't run for any reason other than fear in quite some time. He was playing with a toilet paper tube the other day, picking it up and throwing it down like he used to when he was much younger.

The biggest difference I've noticed is his weight. He has been slowly but steadily losing weight for several months now, every now and again he would gain a little bit back and then start losing more again. This past sunday, he had a 22 gram weight gain in 7 days. That is his single biggest weight gain in months, and hopefully I will see another gain this sunday. I only started giving him the CBD on Tuesday of last week, and definitely noticed an increase in his appetite after that.

@GPP, I'm so glad to read that the CBD gel appears to have helped Leo and hope to read of further improvements.

For Lily, the only improvement I've seen is that she is no longer limping. But since that was the reason I bought the CBD in the first place, I am satisfied. She still doesn't move much and now I need to look into urine scald. I wipe Lily down with a pet wipe morning and night but that still isn't enough. I've just started using calendula cream on her after wiping. If anyone has alternative suggestions, I'm totally open to trying it.

Leo has had the same problem, and sometimes he will lie in the same place for some time while he munches hay. His tummy gets very wet, and I don't want him to get urine scald either so I've been bathing him with a mild small animal shampoo and just on his butt and belly once or twice a week.

I will continue to use the wipes and will give Lily butt baths more often.

It has not been good for my piggies these past few days. My other piggy, Rumi, gets bloated easily. In July, Rumi had a bad case of bloat and after spending thousands of dollars, she recovered. This past weekend, Rumi came down with another bad case of bloat and yesterday spent the entire day being hospitalized at the vets. Today, so far, still not doing well at home. I wish I know what causes Rumi to bloat. She and Lily eat exactly the same food and luckily Lily has never bloated.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for Rumi, @SSLee . Sick piggies are such an emotional roller coaster.

I'm curious about CBD now since Walter still acts like a rabid animal when I need to cut his nails and remains difficult to handle when it comes to his front nails. We know he has pain there but we haven't done any xrays since last year. The vet wants to try carprofen (Rimadyl) but that has to be compounded and costs $100. She said maybe meloxicam isn't working for him anymore. 💀

I feel like it would be worth a shot. I'm not sure if he can come off the other meds, and I haven't taken Leo off the meloxicam. I use the CBD purely to augment his pain relief.

How is Rumi doing? Hopefully some improvement?

@GPP, Rumi is doing better today. She is eating and drinking on her own. Rumi even gnawed on the bars and insisted on her morning vitamin C. The vet wants to do ultrasound, more x-rays and possibly a CT scan to find the underlying cause of the bloat and GI statis. I'm not opposed to it but not sure I can afford it at this time. I'm working part-time for a pharma start-up and they don't have money to pay us, so I'm living off my savings. I'm also in the middle of on-going medical treatment myself. I've asked for a pricing on the ultrasound and CT scan to see how I can fit that into my budget.

On the CBD, Lily is strictly on that as all the meloxicam has been used up. I'm really hopeful that the CBD is another long-term treatment for Leo.

I'm glad she's doing better today, and I hope the upward trend continues. Hopefully the CBD is all she needs, as it really beats having to be on the meloxicam long term. I'm already past that point with Leo, as he's been on it a year now and I just want him comfortable.
