So I've had my piggie for a month or so now and I think he's finally starting to feel at home with me. His new favorite thing is to crawl on top of my shoulder like a parrot. That isn't too unusual I don't think but the fact that he licks my neck when he gets up there is unusual. That was last night. Today I was loving on him and he responded by licking my arm. He never offered to nip or bite, just licked away at my arm.

Has anyone else had this happen with their piggy? I'm thinking it's because he's a lone pig for the present and that maybe he's using his extra affection on me?

The smaller of my 2 piggies, Josie, is the same way. Almost everytime I have her out she licks me... hands, arms, wrists. My other piggie, Roxie, hasn't licked me a single time. From what I've read on here it may have something to do with our skin having a salty taste to them.

That's adorable. I wish snowball can give licks like that. My dad was trying to get him to lick the other day but all snowball did was a nip on the finger.

Haha- Josie loves to nip my fingernails, but no flesh nipping yet :tearsofjo

Some say it's because of the natural salt on our skin, but for at least one of my piggies I disagree.

My Hatter will only do it after really snuggling up to me, right before she falls asleep when I'm petting her behind her right ear. I think it's regular grooming, a sign of affection. As she sees me petting her as the same thing. Most bonded animals groom one another.

My Belle on the other hand will run up to me just to sit in my lap & lick/lightly nip at me. Especially if I've eaten something interesting earlier. For her I'm sure it's more about the taste. :silly:
