I have another thread about my pregnant pig but wanted to get this question out there ASAP. I'm supposed to go to my parents house tomorrow and spend the night. I would probably be gone from Saturday afternoon to Sunday evening. My pregnant girl could be anywhere from 8 to 9 weeks along, but I really have no idea. She's still moving around well, popcorning, etc. I'm feeling worried to leave her for the night but I don't know if my family will understand me missing Christmas!

Advice??

Can you bring her with you?

Can you bring her with you?

I can bring her with me I just wasn't sure if that would be too stressful? She'd be in a pretty tiny cage for the trip. She'd also be away from her "buddy" who is kept in the cage next to her. If bringing her is the better option I could certainly do it.

Can you bring both? Is her buddy a male? Why are they in different cage?

I don't think I would be able to bring both. I only have 1 really transportable cage at this point.

Her buddy is a male. They were housed together as "males" when I got them at 6 weeks old. Turns out one is female and pregnant. They are both about 3 1/2 months old. The whole long story is here: https://www.guineapigcages.com/threads/67175/

I think you should leave them. It is REALLY stressful for a pregnant guinea pig to be moved. I have a pregnant girl right now and she is pretty far along and is scared to death of anything right now!!! She is scared to death of being touched,petted,picked-up, or even seen!!! It would just be better on her to leave her for a little bit, but with EXTRA food, water and a nice baby-proofed cage! I hopethis helped and that you have a happy holiday!!!

My guinea pigs will be here overnight but none of them are pregnant. My daughter's boyfriend has house keys to check on them. If one of mine was pregnant, I'd bring her along unless I'd have to stop somewhere on the way where she'd have to stay in the car. She'd probably be alright overnight but I doubt if I'd have a good time because I'd be worried. I'd just make sure I'd have a comfortable carrier for her and veggies and soft hay for the road. How long of a drive is it and what's the weather like for the trip?

If you can't find someone to stay with her, or to keep her at their house, I'd take her. It will be stressful for her, but she should survive ok. On the other hand, she's so young and so small that she may well have difficulty giving birth, so she needs to be somewhere that someone can keep an eye on her. If she has several pups, she'll likely be ok, but if it's just one large one, she'll probably need vet help with delivery.

If you're traveling in a car, can you put her in a large container, like a rubbermaid bin? Or borrow a larger dog or cat cage to use for the weekend?

I know that people say that if her sides are moving, like you can feel the babies kicking, the time is getting close. I would check for that before you leave on tomorrow.

Is there anyone nearby that wont be celebrating Christmas Eve who you could ask to stay and watch her, with the number for an emergency vet in case the birth turns bad? Hopefully it goes very smoothly, this would just be a precaution, but I know that I would be beside myself leaving for the night.

I won't have anyone to stay with her. The cage I was planning to use is 24" x 16". Not much compared to the C&C but do you guys think that would be sufficient space?

I can't see her sides moving yet (not that she wants to sit there to let me watch) but she just looks like she's going to burst!

Also wanted to add that the car ride itself is only 2 hours.

That cage is fine for a two-hour car ride. Can you give her some more room while you're there?

That cage would be what she'd be in for the whole trip. It's the only thing that is really baby proof that i can bring with me.
