Whenever I pick up my pigs I always notice that their mouths start wiggling around. It looks as if they are eating something. There is no noise just wiggly lips. I'm worried because I really don't know if this is a good thing. They will do it a lot at the start of lap time and then quiten down a BIT.

Any ideas?

It's just them "chewing their cud" ^_^ Poppy will start her chewing whenever I pet her, and if I stop petting her, she stops chewing for a moment. Then if I start petting her again, there goes the chewing. Not sure what she's working on, but it's mighty cute.

omg...I just noticed my Lily doing that a lot recently! I thought she was just nervous or something because birds click their beak when they are nervous, so I thought maybe it was the same thing! lol...weird!

Metallichica, its the same with my boys. When I stop petting they will stop chewing. They do look so cute but I still don't know if its a bad thing.

my boy piggie makes crunching noises.. it sounds like he's grinding his teeth or something

Isn't that teeth chattering...which is meant to be a bad sign?

how long should laptime last? will the pigs sit in your lap while you watch tv or read a book?

If they look like they're chewing without making any noises, they're simply relaxed. Similar I guess to how humans enjoy chewing gum or a blade of grass. Rodents love to chew!

My pigs will sit still on my lap when they're feeling lazy or tired. Usually though they are active and can't stay still so they don't sit on my lap for very long.

I usually give lap time til they're tired of it... with one of my long-gone piggies, that could last an hour or more... she'd fall asleep on my lap while I'd watch tv! With Poppy, that usually lasts about 10 or 15 minutes. With the two new girls, though... well, they get restless after about a minute, so I usually keep their laptime sessions to under 10 minutes.

You'll notice them making frustrated noises, or backing up into you because they need to use the bathroom. That's usually a good time to put them down =)

Mine usually squeak when they've gotta go. I usually only have them out in their cozies with me for 20 minutes or so.

~Pearl does that chewing/nose wiggling thing when I pick her up too. I really hope your right that it means shes relaxed!(haha chewing gum, so true) She also chews when I pet her and stops when I stop petting her, and I agree it's cute!!!! When its her lap time and shes sick of me petting her Pearl will kinda knock my had away. Its hard to explain though. When she has to go she will nibble (it doesn't hurt) on my finger. My friends rats do that too, and that was a little off topic.~ ~C~

Mine will stick up their bums real high or back up into me or in the opposite direction, so I know they have to pee or poo.

That's funny! I can see it now, wiggling rear ends...

LOL, that is a funny picture!
