I've searched these forums for probably 2 hours trying to find information on kitchen areas and I'm just not getting it.

I will be building my own C&C cage this weekend. Yeah! I've seen hay in boxes on some of your pictures and have gathered that piggies seem to pee while they eat the hay.

My question is - should I get a separate plastic box that is big enough to house the hay, the food bowl and the water all in it? Should it also be big enough for the piggie to hang out in?

I am going to try the fleece bedding that seems to be a favorite here. Presently I was using Carefree or whatever it's called and at times I've used Pine shavings. My goal is to be as odor free as can possibly be.

Will having that little kitchen area for food, water and hay help keep the piggie peeing in that one area? I know you have to scoop up the poo, but I was surprise to hear that piggies pee where they eat.

So, I guess my long winded question leads to this - if I provide a kitchen/bathroom area, will they pee there mostly?

Thanks alot, this is my first post, please bear with me!

Mind tend to pee wherever they are when they have the urge.

Yes, usually, pigs tend to pee where the kitchen is. As far as poo, mine go everywhere, but mostly in the kitchen area. Each pig tends to have different personalities with this. There are some pigs that strictly go in the kitchen (I, unfortunately have the messy ones lol), so you will just have to try it out and see.

You can check out my recent gallery photos for some ideas if you need them. I just installed a kitchen last week. It works well for me. Good luck!

Most pigs just pee wherever they are when the urge hits. They always poop wherever they are when the urge hits.
The urge just seems to hit more often when they are consuming food and water --easy in/easy out I guess. Pigs spend a lot of time grazing hay, so they tend to do most of their eliminating around the hay rack.
Providing a separate area for your hay, water, and food will infact cut down on the mess on your fleece.....but your pigs will still pee and poop on the fleece--that is why the under layers of towels to absorb are important.

I have a 2x2 kitchen on my cage and it is great. They still urinate in the main area, but they go much more in the kitchen. By having it separated, you can change out the fleece and towels more often than the main living area if you need to. They tend to poop mostly in the kitchen too, but still go a little in the living room. I also have a separate loft for veggie time.

I cut the coroplast the height of the cubes on 3 sides to help keep the hay in the cage. I like it alot, I just wish I had more of the yellow coro instead of having to use the purple. Oh well, it still looks ok.

If you look in my gallery you can see pictures of my kitchen. I have a picture from when it was 1x2 and then when I expanded it.
