Cage Kitchen area question

I've read on here that the best kitchen is under the loft area. However I see lots of cages that use the loft as the kitchen. What's really best? My boys don't seem to use the kitchen to potty. They pee and poo đź’© primarily where they sleep. I've never had a loft but am building one now. I have done a covered kitchen though and they still don't seem to use it except as required to get hay. They even drag their veggies into the fleece forest or
GPig sofa (where they sleep). I really don't like how much space the kitchen takes away from downstairs but want them to have the best option.

Maybe I will try a small kitchen upstairs too and see how much they use it??

This is what I have now. I'm working on the upstairs. They've had the same size, 2x4, for a while with a lid covering the portion that makes the kitchen and fleece strips making it a "cave like" kitchen. But as said, they didn't potty in it much.

My girls neer used theyre downstairs kitchen. When i upgraded to a 2x5 with a loft they love! They run up and down the ramp. The only thing is all their poo is either in the loft or at the bottom of the ramp...
