Today I bought a bag of pellets that say they are kiln dried pine, bit they appear to have quite an odor. I didn't use them in my cage yet and I cut the bag open to air them out. Has anyone else had kiln dried pine smell? I don't know I'd it's supposed to smell because I've never used them before.

Most kiln-dried pellets that I've used will have a faint pine smell for a day or so, but not a strong one. I did once get some that were not kiln dried and tried to air them out in a kid's wading pool. It took eight weeks for the odor to dissipate!

Yeah I just took a whiff of them now that it's been a few hours and the odor is quite strong. I'm going to have to let them be for a while because I don't like it.

I use a large rubbermaid bin to dump my shavings in. This gives them more surface area and the smell dissipates faster.
