Thats terrible! Was the hamster already dead? If I lived in CA I would storm down there and give those people a piece of my mind.. Did they even have food, water..what kind of bedding was that anyway..? Pine..?

Sorry.. venting.. I swear.. I thought they passed a law in CA about selling pets.. or something about keeping them in "good conditions" ?

I took these videos at Petsmart yssterday.

YouTube - Killer hamsters

That is indeed terrible that there was a dead hamster in the cage, but many rodents do cannibalize their dead (especially the omnivores, like hamsters and rats). It's a survival instinct... a dead body lying around attracts predators.

Just another reason not to shop there and support that kind of animal cruelty.

Did you speak to the manager? What did they say?

They had food, the water was fresh, i saw them put the water in there. The bedding was carefresh as that is all that this Petsmart uses. It wasnt dead when i got there. I was watching for about 10 minutes before i said anything, and he was fighting back for a while. The manager walked by about 4 times and never even looked at them or asked if they could help me. I had a couple more videos on there i dont know if they uploaded yet though. You can check if you want. There were about 15 other hamsters in that cage.

You passively sat and watched animals kill each other without seeking help?

The hamsters are usually overcrowded in small tanks. As are the rats and mice. Syrians should be kept one in a tank, but they don't do that. Dwarfs can be kept in colonies, but they do fight if stressed. They usually don't have wheels in the tanks, which doesn't help.

I'm surprised they didn't know that hamsters are not supposed to live together. They always eat eachother. My friends sister had two hamsters and they murdered eachother.

Exactly what I was thinking. It took ten minutes to decide you should call for help.

And you didn't think a fight that looked like that deserved immediate action?! That was brutal!

Oh my goodness!!! Pets fight ALL the time. Dogs, cats, hampsters, guinea pigs, people.. I don't think he realized or could tell that it was as serious as it ended. The point is he did say something to a manager as soon as he realized how seriously injured he was getting. My gosh!!

Why wouldn't you demand it be removed. I yelled until guinea pigs were given food in a petstore just a few short weeks ago. Why would you wait??????

If you saw that many dogs/cats/people gang up on one, and start fighting like that you would wait 10 minutes, after the one died, to say anything?

Umm, wow. Yeah, only quote half of what i said and ignore the ending of my comment like usual for the sake of something to argue about...
