whats the difference between a podgy guinea pig and a pregnant one??

Well, if they were pregnant you would probably know right away. A pregnant guinea pig has two large "lumps" on the side of her stomach and if it is far enough along in the pregnancy, you can feel the babies kicking.

hmmm ok i think my gp is fat and pregnant should i try putting her on a diet now or what would be the best thing??

Yeah, check the female for signs of the babies kicking. She could just be pudgy though, my MALE guinea pig looks pregnant. Seriously, lol he needs more excersize! LOL Everyone who sees him goes "Is that one pregnant?" Heehee

If she is pregnant go to www.guinealynx.com to get the best information. I have put on other posts as much as I know about pregnancy, I can try to find it for you and give you the link. I have a lot of information that I have learned over the last couple months.

well i know shes pregnant i think so its like 2 sacs full of water like but i dont feel anything in it i dont know but i notice on her legs shes very fat too

yes you should get her weight down... and fast (in a healthy way) because overweight pregnant guinea pigs tend to develop pregnancy toxemia. this is almost always fatal to both the babies and the mother. please do a google on pregnancy toxemia so you know all about it.

or just let us know if you have any questions.

yep, im gunna let her out in a pen but thing is im worried about the cold and if the dogs barking would scare her we have 17dogs on the land, oh when it snows here can she go out or is that to cold?? i know about pregnany toxemia thing is she doesnt look fat just pregnant and i only noticed she might be fat too when i looked at her legs the other day

Can't you let her run around inside?

yeah i agree with citronsoul. is there anywhere big enough to let her run around inside? keeps her out of the cold.

That is certainly too cold! Cavies are not meant to be running outside in the snow, getting wet in below-freezing temperatures. Not only will it harm her, but it will cause a lot of stress and could harm the babies! Please do not take her outside in the cold.

60 is about as cold as mine go out. When I have to wear a jacket they stay inside. Especially pregnant she should be kept warm inside. Mine just run around my room or the kitchen for awhile. You can give her less pellets and more hay and veggies. It's usually the pellets that mine got fat on. The one I just got from the shelter is on a hay veggie diet with just a few pellets at night. She has a bunch of fat under her chin and may be pregnant so she's getting mostly grass hay with some alfalfa, bell pepper, parsley, and a little spinach, mustard greens, or whatever I happen to have.

well it isnt snow yet, hmm i dont have room for inside as theres wires and dogs i dont know what to do right now

You can buy some extra cubes, cable tie them together, and use that as a "fence" inside. Put a shower curtain or towels down, and you have a great floor time area, just watch her throughout.

whats the difference using the connectors or cable ties??

Oh, cable ties you can flex the "fence", that's why I recommended it. You can also fold them up; my floor time pics are up now if you'd like to look, they're in my photo section. :)

where do i get cable ties from though :(

Look in Lowes, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, there are so many possibilities. I have even found a 100 cable ties in Deals, a dollar store for of course: a dollar.

oo okay thxs :p
