Katie. I have a great life. I'm going into college for art while your going to be going back for your last year in high school. And not to be rude but it seems like your life is on this forum, you think that is a good life, probably not. I didn't mean to jump on you Piglet, I just am pissed that everyone thinks that thier better than me casue they get pigs from a shelter.
Casper

Yep, that's my whole life, sitting at the computer reading and posting on a guiea pig forum!

NOT! I have a great job, animals, and friends.

Yes, one more year of high school, I love school so I don't care. We all go to school for the same amount of time.

and I Totally understand what you mean about the pet stores. I just have never been aware of the pig shelters that thier are. I thought the whole time when everyone would tell me not to get them from a pet store they meant to go through a true breeder like you would with dogs. Thats how i got my full breed pitbull, was through a legit breeder.

But how did we know that casper - did you tell us? Well then, good on you for taking the pig in.

Do you see how the pet shop industry works now? They are willing to sell a living creature to someone who knows nothing about it. It then got dumped on you.

Why would you want to continue to support that type of callousness and greed? (EDIT - nevermind....I just read your above post...VERY GLAD you get it thank you thank you thank you!)

Why didn't you stay around back in April to learn more?

i didn't stay because i havnt had any troubles with the old pig. I had all the info i needed at that time. Now that i got the new one so mine wouldnt be such a loner, i needed some help on bringing them intogether.

Also I am having a vet come to my house on monday that specializes in guinea pigs. I will ask him alot of stuff, so yall won't be bothered by me again. So don't worry

Something doesn't make sense. You were told about pet stores last time you were here and if you had browsed the site, you would have figured out there were shelters and rescues.

I would think everyone knows about animal shelters. Pit bulls flood the shelters. Nearly every one of them is put down because no one can or wants to adopt them.

Actually i just went straight for the forums and still havnt even looked on the site other than here

Education is the key to just about everything in life. The more educated a person is, the better off they are. We here at cavy cages are very passionate about our pigs and our other pets. I am going to educate you and any one who reads this thread a little bit.

Every time a pig is "bought" in a pet store, at least 2 or more are bought through pig mills, backyard breeders or other breeders or bred by the petstore to replace the 1 that is bought.

Every time a pig is "bought" in a pet store, it leaves other pigs in shelters and rescues and doesn't open up more space for more unwanted pigs.

Pet stores mis-sex pigs all the time, most pet stores don't even know how to tell a male from a female and dump the whole shipment of pigs they just received in tiny little plastic containers into small cramped cages without sexing. Males get with the females and unsuspecting buyers come in and buy a pig being told it's male and it turns out to be female and pregnant.

Because of the cramped conditions of most pet shop cages, pigs often are ill with Upper Respiratory Infections, mites, lice, fungal infections and who knows what else because the owners of the pet stores only care about the money they make off the pigs and don't care if they are selling healthy pigs.

Not every pig in a shelter or rescue is sick. Many are just unwanted, abandoned pigs that some jerk decided they didn't have time for anymore. Many are baby pigs because they unknowingly bought a pregnant female that had pups and they don't want to keep them.

You have to understand this, the members that have been here for awhile are very, very passionate about the lives of their pigs and we are anti-petshop (the ones that sell animals), pro-adoption, anti-breeding and anti-breeder. Some posts may come across as rude but the intentions behind the rudeness are well meaning.

So you say your anti-breeding and anti-breeder right. If we all were like that though all the pigs would be gone or just really expensive to buy, because they would have to catch them and ship them here. We have to have breeding or we wont have pigs. We just need inteligent people to breed and take care of them. Nothing like this link one of the members sent me.
Casper

There are now and probably will continue to be responsible breeders who breed to better the genetics and there will always be accidental pregnancies. So no, all the pigs wouldn't be gone.

Thats what i said pretty much. We need Responsible breeders and people who take care of them while they are growing. You said that your Anti-Breeding and Anti-breeder, so your saying you don't want pigs. And accidental pregnancy should be just as bad as an iresponsible breeder.
Casper

Does what i am saying make any sense too you or am i still just one of thoughs ignorant morons who don't know anything about life. I don't know much about pigs, but i have common sense. No breeders = Natural breeding which = less pigs meaning more costly to buy them.

Have you read this?

https://www.cavyspirit.com/breeding.htm

That's a rather silly argument that has no basis in reality right now, because we are vastly overpopulated with pets, with not enough homes. Every 9 seconds, a shelter puts to sleep an animal. Majority of the animals in shelters do not make it out alive and rescues are constantly full.

When there are not enough pets, then we should worry about that.
