Behavior Jumpy piggy??:(

o.k. so this morning(actually a couple of minutes ago) I was holding sundae. I just reached down to try and pet him when he started jumping and running away franticly and started running for cover. I gently grabbed him when he calmed down and put him in my lap. Then I showed him my hand and started petting his neck and when I touched his back he repeated his curious behavior. Anyone know why he did that? I had to put him away after five minutes and Id like to be able to spend time with him:boggled: Thanks!

Guinea pigs are prey animals and it is instinct to run and hide to make sure they are safe. you said the second time you petted him you showed him your hand first. maybe you should always show him your hand first, so he knows it is only you touching him. it sounds silly but having someone touch your back as a guinea pig could probably be the same feeling as being grabbed by a predator. i dont know how long you have had him but it could also just take time for him to get used to you and lap time and being petted.

Haha youre right but another problem is that he just started doing it and when i had him out last night nothing like that happened. In fact I dont think that this has ever happened...

Allright I think my piggie somehow got seriosly scared of me... I took him out again but this time he jumped onto the middle of the back of our couch which of course i moved him right away but he had a look in his eyes that Ill never forget.. It was like he was deathly afraid of something even though I showed him my hand and when I held him I gave hima carrot.. He almost jumped out of my arms... I dont want him to get hurt.. Whats the matter with him?:/
