I have 2 female Guinea Pigs, Lilly {My sister's} & Quinn. {Mine} I got them about 1 week ago.. or less, and I try to spend as much time with Quinn. You see Quinn is a Abby and Lilly is an American. Would they get along? And they shed is this normal? They always chase each other too... Here, I will just post all my questions together:
  • Would an Abby & a American get along?
  • Is it normal that they shed?
  • They always chase each other, is this okay?
  • Sometimes they fight, not letting the one go in the igloo, what should I do?
  • There Both 4-7 months old, how much should they weigh?
  • How long should I bond with Quinn?
  • Even though NOT both of them are mine & only the one Should I just bond with mine? Or both?
  • There Really Shy, How can I fix this?
:) Please try to answer All of the Questions I asked.. Thanks!

  • Would an Abby & a American get along?
The breed doesn't matter. What will determine whether or not they get along is their personality.

  • Is it normal that they shed?
Yes. Pigs do shed!

  • They always chase each other, is this okay?
Yes, they are probably working out some dominance issues.

  • Sometimes they fight, not letting the one go in the igloo, what should I do?
Make sure you have two of everything (food bowls, water bottles, hay racks, pigloos, etc) as well as a large cage. 2x3 grids is the minimum for two girls, but the bigger the better.

  • There Both 4-7 months old, how much should they weigh?
This I am not sure of. Perhaps someone else can tell you, or go check out guinealynx. It has been awhile since I have had young pigs.

  • How long should I bond with Quinn?
Pigs are prey animals and are naturally skittish. That being said, each pig is individual. One of my boys was always pretty skittish while my other one is totally relaxed. There is no "time frame" per say, but she should start to get more comfortable in a few weeks.

  • Even though NOT both of them are mine & only the one Should I just bond with mine? Or both?
Sure! They live together, and will most likely bond to each other as well as you. There is no point in only making an effort to know one when there are two pigs around.

  • There Really Shy, How can I fix this?
As I mentioned before, they are prey animals so they are naturally shy and skittish. Just give them time to warm up to you. Always try to make a bit of quiet noise to alert them that you are coming into the room instead of just appearing over the cage. They will most likely be startled if they look up to see a big person looming over them.

Good luck with your new pigs, and welcome to the forum. I highly suggest you look over the stickies in each section as well as read through some old threads. This board is a great place to learn!

How big is your cage?

You've posted a lot in the last week! Why not take some time and read, read, read! You'll find lots of answers to your questions.

I think GuineaPigs530 had a thread with photos of the cage.

Could all of their threads be joined together? The content of the couple I've seen is relatively similar.

Grace&piggies is right. GuineaPigs530, you have started several threads basically asking the same things over again.

I advise you to stop posting for a bit, and just read the information people here have given you. Asking us to repeat everything is a bit rude, to be honest. We want the best for your guinea pigs, and that means that you need to learn all you can. That means you need to read.

I will also give you some advise that others have mentioned--your pigs will continue to fight if their cage is too small. One may be severely injured and that means an expensive vet bill.

After a day or two of reading the information here, and the information at www.guinealynx.info , you can come back and add questions to this thread.

I don't think its really rude ha ha.. You might be older then me, but its not always right! But thanks to everyone!

It has nothing to do with age. It's frustrating for people when they spend time answering questions and pointing out links and information, and it doesn't get read.

I'm glad you took a few days off. I hope you got lots of reading done.
