Hi - for me, the link is just going to the main page, not to a specific cage. But, if you are adding on to the existing 8 square feet with even the smallest cage there, you are fine.

Yep, eight square feet is fine for one piggie. This page gives minimum and recommended sizes in the chart, but bigger is always better. Guinea Pig Cages, Your Cavy At Home

While the 8 square feet is .5 square feet bigger than the min size, I still believe it isn't appropriate size. For 2 babies, yes. But not for 2 full grown adult pigs. Their going to fight and squabble over space. They'll barely have enough space among their hidys and food supplies.

Are you aware that you should have atleast 2 of everything for 2 guinea pigs? You should have 2 of everything to lessen the risk of them fighting over one having something they want.

Or are you ADDING 8 square feet to your current cage? Or to the small cage you wish to purchase?

The post is about adding the small cage onto the original if getting another pig. Each cage alone is fine for a single pig, and the two cages together would have 15.5 square feet. If the pigs can cohabitate, it's a great space. If they don't get along, they would be okay in the separate cages.

As an aside, we all agree bigger is better, but the chart actually says 7.5 as a minimum for TWO. It is true that some piggies will not get along in this amount of space, other will. It all depends on the personalities. I personally would not do that small for two, but I believe it could work with the right pair.

When I recieved my guinea pig,Maple, from her adoptive family not even a month ago she came with an 8 square feet cage. Seeing this cage met good standings for ONE piggie I knew though it wouldn't be enough for two. I wouldn't dare add another yet until I add on the cage. I am not putting two guinea pigs in that cage. But until I purchase another cage & piggie I do believe this cage is perfectly fine for Maple alone. In no way would I put two piggies in such a confined space..Maple takes up enough room, the little hefflelump. lol

Okay. So you're just going to add the 8 square feet onto the current cage?
Have you considering getting the supplies and building one of your own? We'd be happy to help you gather the supplies.

Gathering them is always cheaper then ordering, you need not worry about shipping then.

I agree, I think a 2x3 is too small, even a 2x4, especially when you add hay, bowls, hidies etc.

And Maple has enough room for herself. I am adding her cage to the small covered one and adding another piggie as well. As for supplies I will be getting them from my local feed store probably or my cousin.

Okay, I think i assumed correct then. If you'd like to build one your own let us know. I loved building mine. I just love adding to it as well. Only issue is having the extra money for more coroplast, fleece/uhual pads for a bigger cage.

Firstly, sorry if I soudned rude. It's one of those days for me..really sorry. Anyway, would it be cheaper to buy the 82 dollar cage and add it to Maple's 8 square feet cage or just to build one with grids and add Maple
's cage? If it is cheaper for building..where would i get grids? I found out the Target and K-Mart grids are dangerous. Any other local chains that would sell safe grids or would I need to get them from a guinea pig supply store..(I don't have many near me..I could order online but as madelineealaine said there is the cost of shipping which can be ridiculous at times.

I actually bought my grids from Walmart. I had them shipped Site to Store from the website for free. It saved me about $40 in shipping!!!!!! I would definitely suggest that!
