Ruthie has super premium Guinea Pig blend for her food. Anyone know if this is a good one? Ruthie seems to like it and she's had it for a while. :)

Thanks so much!

It is called Wild Harvest :)

Ok, thanks. Hold on, I'll check it out. =)

Hmmm. I can't find the ingredients anywhere. Is it possible for you to type them up? Thanks so much!

I'm eager to read this too! lol

hmmm....I think so. My mom usually gets it while I'm in at school but I'm pretty sure it was walmart.

It's probably not too great then. I know the stuff I looked at there wasn't. I don't remember names though. Try to write down the ingredients from the back of the bag for her...then she'll be able to tell.

When I first got my piggs (about 3 years ago) I used that food, it is full of color dies, and little treaty peices. I don't think it's good food..... But it would be helpful if you could possibly type out the ingrediant list!

while it is mostly true that stores such as Walmarts dont have good quality guinea pig items, there are some chain stores that DO have pretty good quality pellets. Such as Fred Meyers, which carries a pellet product called "Wagners Premium Guinea Pig Food" which is pretty good. Try this out if you have a Fred Meyer near you. Wagners is super cheap too! about a sixth of the price of cavy cuisine.

you shouldnt feed piggies a food that has other "treats" mixed in because the piggies will pick out their favorites and neglect the ones that they really need for nutrients. you should try to get them onto some oxbow pellets but remember to do it slowly so you dont upset their stomach.

is there seeds and nuts and dried fruits in the mix..? cuz if there is its not good for your piggies.. they will get fat very soon..^^

They could choke on the seeds as well

Ok, the ingredients are super long and it would take a million hours to type then but here are the general stuff....
Soybeans, alfalfa meal, soybean meal, spanish peanuts, corn, glueten meal, Dried Whey, Split peas, carrots, apples, rasins, cane molasses

I think this is a good food because ruthies head is always buried in the bowl and she loves picking out the stuff she likes. But I sometimes keep it in there as long as it takes for her to finish it so she gets the good stuff as well.

Well the first two red flags are Corn and Alfalfa meal, i don't know if any others are bad mncavylover will have to tell you...

sorn and peanuts are both no nos.

im pretty sure molasses isnt good either because it might have a lot of sugar.

you mentioned that she likes to go through and pick out the "good bits", which is immediately a bad sign. ruthie is probably eating all the fatty, sweet things and ignoring the little amount of available nutrition. From what it sounds like, a food switch is in order!

LOL...I think she meant corn.

And as far as molassas goes, it's all sugar! That's what they make pancake surup out of! Very bad. I would try to find another food...at least one that doesn't have bits of anything in it. I feed mine Katee supreme right now because of my lack of funds...but I will be starting them on oxbow here shortly because my new boss is bringing it into our store! So I get a discount...Anyway...oxbow is the healthiest for them, but for temporary you can use one that doesn't have too much bad stuff in it and has no bits (like corn or seeds of any kind or colorful pieces in it) at least that's better than what you have now, right?? But try to get your parents to buy oxbow because it's hands down the best food out there.

thanks for catching me, ccm. i did mean corn. LOL

oh! And I just did a google search for fred meyers, and apparently works with Ralphs, Food For Less, Smiths, and a bunch of other stores that I have never heard of but you probably have! lol So try there for Wagners! I know I will! lol
