is the piggie pregnant? HELP!!!

is my pig pregnant?

1) She doesnt live with another male
2) My only male i have lives in the cage next to hers
3) She is really little, and unsocial..so i havent observed her closely since she was a baby, and would have no idea if this newly discovered chub has been there forever.
4) I'm really scared

female pigy

if she hasnt mated with your male she isnt preggers she might just be fat. and also handle you r piggy often so she knows you and you know her youwill find her a good friend if you do.

Re: female pigy

The pigs have all puffed out their fur now that it is getting colder to keep themselves warm, making them look fat.

Well, maybe...

The last piggie I owned I had since she was a wee pig. She was the only pig, and had never mated with any males from the time I got her. Then.. One day she got a little bump in her tummy. I was like, 12, so my mom said that she was getting mature and I beleived it.. Then she got three distinct bumps and was waddling. Then, presto bam! Three beautiful healthy baby pigs! You never know. Just watch out for little bumps in her tummy.

Re: Well, maybe...

I agree my Arogorn was HUGE!!!! She had little bumps every second, they are little feet pocking out. 8o

If you ask me i think it looks painful!!!
Arogorn looked shocked when she gave birth. She started contractions about 7 hours before she littered down!!!

I think that she was not in pain though, even though she had 5 baby piggies 2 look after. :D

If you are in doubt take her 2 the vets and have a scan. Although it is quite expensive though

Re: is the piggie pregnant? HELP!!!

You'll know if she's pregnant if you watch her closely. If she starts drinking a lot more water and gaining weight. She might also not like to be handled a lot and will run away from you. You can also tell if she starts to take on a pear shape. Hope that somehow helps. Good luck ;)

My goodness

Wow what change. I dont meen to be mean to Cavy Madness but you ask a question like this and they go BIZZERIK I mean you even slightly mention peggie pigs and they atomaticly think your breeding. I got my 2 piggs from the pet store (One's named PIper the other is Leo)

There in qurentine now but im worried shes preggie even though her brother to young to really do anything she was in a cage with a MATURE male. I had to get them out before anything happened and to give this gorges sheltie the care she desirves. Her and her bro are in seprate cages for qurentine and will be untill i make Kara's Cage but with a divider untill i can get her brother fixed. I DO NOT want to breed. But piper might be peggie from the 2 year old male she was with. So wish me luck.

Re: My goodness

Good luck with your pregnant Guinea Pig, if in fact she is pregnant. And the topic of breeding isn't welcomed at this board either, GuineaGirl10.

Re: My goodness

Star Gardener is right. I simply won't tolerate any discussions relating to intentional breeding here.

HELLO? Virgin guinea pig birth? I don't think so.

Just a reminder that the SEXING page on Cavy Spirit has been updated with improved photos: cavyspirit.com/sexing.htm

?preg piggers

Just to mention... there are RECORDED cases of Boars as young as 24 DAYS OLD (just over 3 weeks old) getting their mother pregnant!!

To remind you... if you have male babies, separate them from their mother & any sisters from 3 weeks old unless they are sickly (& need extra nutrition from mum) & not displaying any signs of mounting (though is it worth the risk?).

Any new Sow is potentially pregnant & should be observed for signs of such for at least the first 72 days. You can never really know if any Boars have been near her (especially as so many people, vets & breeders included, missex them).

If you DO FIND yourself with a new Sow that turns out to be pregnant, Seagull's has good information on pregnancy care:
(broken link removed)

And just a reminder, Cavy have a 20% DEATH RATE related to pregnancy & birth... a good enough reason to avoid the possibility at all chance.
