Is something wrong? I never knew piggies could CHIRP!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!

*Piglet*

I doubt anythings wrong.

My piggies chirp all the time when its lap time. Just means they are contented.

Some pigs just do that. Don't worry, it's nothing bad.

Pennick- Is that what it means? I thought it was just a mystery and no one knew what it meant.

pennick, I think you're thinking of purring. Only very few cavies chirp, and like Jenny said its a mystery why they do it

Yeah pennick, your definetly thinking of purring or wheeking, this sounds like she was a bird singing a melody, she sounded like she was singing, wait, COOL, I have a diva piggie, YAY, were gonna be RICH lol!!!

No, I'm thinking of chirping. I have always said that my piggies chirp. At first I also thought I had a bird in my house. No mystery to me. They only chirp when they are being petted during lap time. They stretch out and chirp their hearts out. I love it.

Sorry, I know what I am thinking. My piggies chirp just the way you describe it. It sounds like melodic nonsense. Like they are singing to me. I sing right back.

Yes, that is what it means. I know what my piggies sound like. They wheek, they purr (although I call this a motor sound) and they CHIRP.

Actually.... Ascot doesn't purr. He makes this hi pitched noise whilst being petted. Could you describe the sound a bit more?

When you first hear it the only thing that comes to mind immediately is chirping. It's a sound all its own. Like no other. After you hear it for a few months then maybe you can say it sounds like their making giberish nonsense talk. Like they are talking to you in a nonsense sort of way. Its melodic. Different sing song tones. Its nothing like purring, wheeking or motor sound. Its a sound to itself. Its a sound that warms your heart.

my pigs chirp all the time. My hubby thinks they were canaries in a past life

What I'll do is try to record him making this sound. Then you guys can hear it for me!

Piglet: Did you check the guinealynx site? There's a link to a soundfile, "Nina Chirping". Maybe it's the same sound.

At least two of my pigs chirp. Its a very odd noise. They look like they are in a trance. My other pigs just sit there and listin. They look like they are in a trance too. If you play "nina chirping" for your pigs you might have the same reaction. My pigs freeze when I play it for them. Its not a thing to worried about. No one knows why the do it. There is a thread at Guinea lynx about chirping theories. Lots of people think it might be because they are lonely, but I have four pigs together and I dont thnk they are lonely. I dont know.
