I use pine bedding for my guinea pigs since it’s cheap to buy in bulk, and the kind I use is easy to clean and surprisingly soft. I’ve used it for a while and so far I’ve seen no respiratory issues with my piggies. The kind I use has almost no scent, even when you stick your face in the bag. I can only ever smell it when I put it directly up to my nose, but I might be nose-blind to the smell. It’s also dust-free if that helps at all.

I’m hesitant to switch to a different kind since paper bedding is expensive, and fleece isn’t an option for me. Is this bedding still okay to use?

Before I switched to fleece bedding, I used aspen bedding instead. If it isn't the same price as pine, it is very close and it is safe for guinea pigs. I personally avoided pine altogether just in case (I'm paranoid when it comes to my girls lol), but if your pine bedding is kiln-dried, it should still be safe for them. Depending on how strong the scent is, it might be best to air it out for a long while before using it, just in case.

Hope this helps!

I did some research and aspen seems pretty affordable also, and since the bag of pine bedding doesn’t specify if it’s kiln-dried, I think I’ll switch the next time I need to restock.

I didn’t know aspen was safe for guinea pigs, so thank you! :)
