Ok it may not be the nicest of thread titles.. but I am seriously wondering about my pig and if something is wrong with him. I let the poor critter exercise, but he doesn't budge. For example:

1) yesterday i sat him on the rug (in a large open space) and he didn't move at all for 35 minutes.

2) no matter where I put him the results are the same.. The pig fails to move . I can vaccum around him and he doesn't move.

My other pig (Cakes) immediately gets up runs around makes noises etc.

I'm beginning to think perhaps something is wrong with the older one's brain. His eyes are not cloudy, however you can get within 1/8 cm and he doesn't budge. Cakes always moves. I know pigs have varying personalities, but not moving (when left alone) and his bizzare aloof behavior have got me wondering if something is seriously wrong with him.

any advice?

how old is the pig that you are worried about?
it also could be a mix of blindness, hearing loss etc . . .
I am very sorry for you. It is so hard to see the animals that we love so much suffer

I don't think anything is wrong with him, how long have you had him. Does he eat and drink and move around in his cage. How often do you give him floortime? I think it could be just sheer terror, and vaccumming around him doesn't help, at all. Probably traumatized him a little bit.My pigs freeze up when they are scared. Does he have any hidey places during floor time?

I would also recommend hidey places. Place them a few feet apart so she can run from spot to spot and feel safe. Also, make sure there are some interesting things for her to do on the floor. Maybe save a favorite veggie for floor time only, or a special toy. The best way to get a guinea pig excited, in my experience, is food!

My guinea pigs will let me almost poke them in the eye before moving their head away, so I wouldn't worry about him being blind.

Good Luck!

As long as he can find his food, I wouldn't worry - even if he is blind. My pigs run and hide in terror whenever I start the vacuum cleaner. They hate the noise and movement. But if they had no idea where to run and hide, maybe they'd freeze, too - which is a bad thing cause they can still bolt unexpectedly and hurt themselves badly.

i'n not sure how old he is, he weights around 2.5 pounds though. He is able to sniff out his food and water, so he'll be fine in that respect. I set him on the carpet for exercise every day.. but the results are always the same. He doesnt budge. he has tons of places to run and hide.

I have seen him scared before, from loud noise, ( I was watching a movie rather loud once) and he freaked out and ran. I dont think that he is petrified, since he shows his annoyance quite vocally (such as screaming during a bath, and teeth chattering).

I'm beggining to believe he is just a weird one..

poor thing.

He does sound fine to me.. but if you really are worried maybe you should get him checked out by a vet.

If his behaviour changed only recently, I'd definitely take him to a vet.
