Adopting Is it too soon?

As some of you know, I had to put one of my piggies down this morning without much warning (it all happened very fast). I still have my baby, Oreo, (well, 9 months ;)) that I got in July and the piggy that passed away today I got in August. I want to adopt another one so Oreo doesn't get depressed but I was wondering if there is a such thing as "too soon" for that. I've been looking online and I actually found a couple of single males in my area that are up for adoption and I know last time it was really hard to find a single male. I'm not sure if seeing about adopting one within the next week is a good or bad decision. All day today Oreo has been wanting me to hold him which is very unlike him so I figured he either knows I'm upset or he's sad too or both (probably both). So what are yalls opinions?

I had a silkie named Legelas. He had 2 other mates. They all got along very well. Two of his mates were killed by a dog that I took in. Legelas was heartbroken. He cried and cried out for his friends. It broke my heart. I had my daughter go get him a friend right away (before I was on here and knew about pet shops). She got him a baby boy. Legeals was so happy. He purred and purred. They were together until Legalas death.

So what I am saying is, yes, if they will all bond, it may be a good thing. Oreo will need a friend again. It will be up to your heart when you can love another again.
Keep us posted as to what you do. Again I am so very sorry for your and Oreo's loss.

It's not too soon. I say, go with what your heart says and if you think it's the right thing for you and Oreo, go for it! I've done it both ways. I've waited and I've adopted right away other times. It just depends on what you feel you and your surviving pig needs. I know you'll end up finding a perfect friend for Oreo.

Well Oreo and I are going to meet two single male piggies today! I'm so lucky I was able to find some single males, it's usually really hard. Hopefully we can come home with one because I can tell Oreo is getting lonely. He's still doing ok but he really needs a friend again. I also feel ready to take another one. I know Pumbaa is grateful for the home I was able to give him during his last days so I don't feel like I'm trying to replace him or anything. Nothing can replace that giant ball of sweetness and kisses :)

I'm really happy for you and Oreo. Please let us know how it goes.

In a situation where one of a pair dies, as long as the remaining pig is healthy there's no reason to wait in introducing another. However, it's very important that the remaining pig is indeed healthy. Sometimes a pig will act depressed after the death of the companion, when in reality that pig is sick as well.
