Wasn't sure where to post this so apologies if it's in the wrong forum! I picked up our new guinea pig yesterday, he's 8 weeks old and size wise I'm pretty sure this is accurate as I have pictures of him from birth and 4 weeks old. Anyway I gave him a check over yesterday and found his belly button had a tiny dried black bit on it. I run my finger over it gently but it didn't come off so I put him in his cage and left him to settle in. I don't want to unsettle him by trying to take a picture so hopefully someone can explain what this is without seeing it. It is almost like a dried up bit of umbilical cord but I thought these fell off by 3 weeks at the latest. Is it possible that his just didn't fall off? It doesn't look anything like a hernia (it's not a lump) and it doesn't look infected or painful at all, it's literally just a very small dry black spot on his belly button and it seems attached so it's not food or poo (it's also a lot smaller than food or poo). Has anyone ever experienced this with their piggies? I have also checked his fur for signs of mites etc but all fine from what I can see there's just this little dry black hard bit on the belly button.
