Only if either the male or female is neutered can you have them in the same cage! Unless you're intending to breed..
Guinea pigs squeek if they are hungry, want attention, or in pain.

It is NOT okay to have an unaltered pair in the same cage. You will end up with babies, and the mortality rate for sows is 20%.
