is it just me...?

It is kinda creepy. Would be a funny prank. Put a whole bunch of them in someone's room while they are gone. lol

I agree. They've been around forever, it took them long enough to get a commercial. They seem like awful toys, since all they do is breath. They're not even like a stuffed animal, they're basically robotics covered in fur.

LOL that would be hilarious! lol Expensive but hilarious!!

Yeah, I've seen ones that didn't move - those were weird but this is just CREEPY if you ask me! I agree, they don't seem like they'd be much fun... I can see it as a coping mechanism for someone who calms down by petting an animal but can't afford/take care of a real pet but beyond that... a gold fish seems more exciting!

My daughter wanted a dog one year for Christmas....she got one of these instead! Sure, it wasn't a cuddly stuffed animal, but it didn't poop on my floor and she quit bugging me about getting a dog!

Kind of creepy!

They remind me of taxidermied pets... except somehow creepier. When we got robotic animals they always did more things like walk and bark, much more fun :)

Give me a real dog over that thing any day.

I'd rather have the real thing. What's so fun about a fake dog that only knows how to lie down and breath? I'd get bored of it within minutes.

Actually, I wish the pet stores would see guinea pig versions of these instead of the real thing. It's the perfect solution for, "Mommy, Mommy, please buy me the cute piggy! I promise I'll take care of it," and a neglected or dumped cavy a month or two later.

That is pretty weird. When I was younger I couldn't sleep without the TV on. They sell all sorts of junk on those commercials that replace regular TV programming late at night. I always wondered who in their right mind would actually buy some of that stuff. And this is coming from an Etsy-holic.

I guess if there's some strange little child out there that would take this instead of the real deal, that's cool. I'd think most kids would think it's ridiculous.

As much as my child wants it, I know she'd be bored with it in a matter of hours and be forgotten by the end of the week - I won't waste my money on it!!

I agree with you @mufasa - except I'd prefer the "fur real" animal type thing - they do more than "sleep" (although the noises might get annoying, still better than neglecting a real animal!)

I guess i'm weird in that i think they are cute. They had them at the state fair and i almost bought one. XD not exciting but i donno. Cute to just sit and pet. *this was before i had cavys though. Not sure i need something fake to pet now that i have them. (i have cats and a dog but they dont always want to cuddle. Hence the want of a fuzzy thing to pet)

Omg, that's adorable. The sleeping puppies are just so cute (the face just makes me go "awwww")! But creepy, they have a creepy factor too. I don't like the idea of something sitting there and "breathing" in my apartment, forever.

What mufasa said got me thinking - does anyone else think that this might lead kids to believe that because they own something like this, that it's the same as owning a real dog or cat?

There used to be a robotic dog called Techno, that was LITERALLY robotic-- Didn't look like a real dog, but it came with an infrared remote and you could make it do tricks and things like that-- and it was less creepy. I loved my Techno as a kid. Of course after the first day I gave it up, but still. I loved it.

:D

Woah, childhood flashback! I remember those, and I really wanted one.

Wow!! Creepy!!

Lets just have a "sleeping" chocolate lab become a part of our family!! The problem I see with this is, is it teaching kids that pets are toys?? Who knows, but it is really creeping me out :)

I'll take a reall dog any day!
