General Is it harmful?

The other day I had my pig Yogi in the kitchen with me while I was preparing the vegetables for him and his brothers. I put him on the floor on his blanket in a place where I had eyes on him at all times, and gave him a carrot to eat to keep him busy and occupied. Being that he's the curious type and has never been in the kitchen before on the floor, (as my Mom absolutely forbids my pigs from being allowed to explore upstairs freely, especially in the kitchen, though as long as he or the others stay put on their blankets in one spot they are okay, and she will on occasion allow them to run up and down the hallway or explore the den) he abandons his carrot and starts moving about the kitchen checking out every square inch of the place. My Mom was busy on the phone with my Aunt in another room so I figured what she doesn't know won't hurt her, and I nor Yogi isn't gonna blab and tell her he moved off his blanket, LOL.

Anyways, he made his way around to the little nook/desk like area where under it I keep a large container of my dogs food. He went behind the container and didn't come out the other side, so I thought he got stuck and when I went to help him out he had found a piece of dog food that was wedged under the container that he was trying to get out. Luckily he didn't eat it or get hold of it, but if he did, would dog food be harmful to a Guine pig? Having this happen just made me curious to know if it could have harmed him and made him sick if he had gotten it.

Was it a kernel or chunk of wet food? Either way I would assume the most likely negative reactions if he were to ingest any would be gas/bloat, diarrhoea or other intestinal upset. I would image the more ingested the more likely/severe the reaction would be, if only a very small amount was consumed there may even be no reaction at all. In the circumstance were any dog food was ingested it would be advisable to keep a close eye on the guinea pig in question for any symptoms.

I personally think he would not have eaten it.

Not that I feed my piggies meat/grains/dairy however I do let them smell it. Not once have they tried to take the whatever morsel of food I present them. Animals are curious and sense of smell is a huge communicator.

I doubt a pig would even touch it beyond a curious little nibble, give what picky eaters they can be. I could be wrong, but I just don't see it. Mine would probably be insulted at the thought, to be honest.

Peanut Butter and Popcorn will not touch Dora and Diego's food. They have sniffed it in the kitchen, climbed into the bowl and just kind of gave me the eye which said "Here is this whole big huge bowl we can get into but what is this nonsense in it?" LOL Before anyone asks, the dogs were not in the kitchen while the boys were in there with us.

It was a piece of dry dog food, just a kernel. Luckily he didn't get to eat any because it was wedged under the weight of the container and he was too little to get it out. He just smelled it under there I guess and was trying his hardest to get at it, LOL.
