Behavior Is he afraid of me?

The last few days Henry has been peeing right as I'm picking him up. He has peed dirrectly in my hands maybe four times. Do guinea pigs pee when they are afraid? Maybe he is super scared of me and I never knew. :guilty:

I need some more information. How old is he? How long have you had him?

I must say that in all the guinea pigs I've picked up, I've never had one start to urinate just as it was being picked up. I have had some who would do it every time being held, however.

I have only seen my girls deliberately pee to ward someone off out of irritation, but it has always been directed at other pigs. I suppose it isn't out of the question that he is responding like this out of fear.

Have you tried other ways of getting him out of the cage that are typically suggested, such as a shoe box with two holes in either end that he can climb in and you can plug? Pigs generally, well, hate being picked up while in their cage. I would give the piggie elevator a shot and see if it doesn't help him out. Hint: leaving a bit of his favorite veggie in the box will make it even more enticing.

Pepper peed right in my lap the other night. She was quiet and calm and just getting her head gently petted. What a gush that was. Went right thru my jeans. I didn't get up right away because I didn't want her to think if she pees on someone she will go back to her cage, so I sat there a little while and then casually got up and put her back before my clothes went right to the hamper.

Hes about a year old, Ive had him for around 9-10 months. He lives alone (for now). I usually use his snuggle tunnel to pick him up. Its just the couple times that I haven't he's hosed me down.

I had one guinea pig pee as soon as I picked her up at an adoption event. She went all over me. My clothes got really wet and there was a puddle on the floor. She was a really nervous guinea pig. Try picking him up for just a moment and then putting him down. Wait a few minutes and pick him up again. Keep a towel on your lap when you hold him.
