I was just wondering that if you have a fairly big cage and you can see that your pigs are getting exercise, would you have to do floor time? Thanks!

how big exactly is your cage. If it is any smaller than a 2x10, i would say YES. DEFINATELY! EVERY DAY!

I don't think it's so much about exercise than bonding time with your pig. Well, in my oppinion anyway. It goves you time to play with your pig on their level and bond more with them.

lmao...uh...that would be 'gives' not goves! HAHAHAAAAAAAA BRAIN DAMAGE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!

yes, ccm is right. bonding is also important. besides, they will love you if you give them this extra time. dont you want them to love you and shriek when they see you and purr when you hold them?

Thanks! Yes, it is a little smaller than 2x10. Where do you suggest the best place for floor time is?

What about a 4x6? Could the guinea pigs get floor time every other day, or if not able to do it in two days, every 3 days? If my pigs don't get floor time one day, they get triple the time the next.
I get my boy Simon out EVERY day no matter what, because I have to use a stupid store bought cage- don't worry, it's the largest size, and everyone else has C&C cages. He gets out at least 3 hours a day though. Yesterday he was out for about 4-5 hours, and today he was out for 3 hours.

Oh yeah, my floor space is probably around... probably 60 sq. ft, but I would have to measure so much because there are cages that stick out, guinea pig items in boxes, ect. The length of one side is a good 20 grids, if not more.

my floor space (bathroom) is about 42 square feet of utilizable space.

Do you think that if in a 4x6 I can let them out on the floor every other day? I was thinking, and I think my space is a lot more than 60 sq ft. I'll just have to measure one day... soon.

if you can let them out every other day, whats wrong with doing it every day? its not too much work.

It's because I have PSR, after school activities, chores, and I have to clean a cage almost every day because I have many piggies. And if I had all my piggies out during the day, I'd be up hours on end.

oh, i see your situation is different than mine. in my floor time space, it is as safe as a free range, so i do not need to monitor them. thats why it is possible for me to do it a lot!

Every other is what I'm trying to do. They have a HUGE cage, though, so that helps. I am super busy. Ruby, guess what? I've got the pigs, all IB classes (I'm the valedictorian, woohoo!), lots of homework, piano, church youth group, choir, this forum, I;m making a big site, I run cross country every day, and I'm working on my gold award. Not to mention that I need some time in there to catch a few songs, eat, communicate, sleep, and retain my state of semi-sanity! Sheesh. And I think I'm going vegetarian. What am I doing?!?!

Floor time gives them some change and stimulation. You wouldn't want to be stuck in the same place every day!

...Why is it so important to go vegetarian?
I mean, I know you save about 90 lives a year, and I think that's great and all, but then think about your health! I was going vegetarian, but it just interfered with my activies and made me weak. I really love animals and all, but going vegetarian might just make you unhealty. But then again, some people just aren't like me :)

Also Loves2Travel:

It's not to where I have to monitor them, because sometimes I don't, but I usually do because a few of my guinea pigs are escape artists :p hehe. They pull and push at EVERYTHING! It's a hassle having to find them under the couches, tables, and put them back in! I love them all the same, :)

ps. I'll be getting my pictures of my piggers and cages up on the site in a few days! Yay!!

i think it was just a friendly little cheer from one member to another.

like, sometimes i say, yay for impatience!!!! (LOL, cinn)
its just a little friendly cheer, i dont atually mean for people to become impatient.

anyhow, its hard to tell because it is in text, but i think it was just meant to be a little innocuous encouragement, nothing more....certainly not an insult for any meat eaters (such as me)

Well, I wasn't taking it as an insult, just like... I dunno, I'm just a bit out of it today. I guess I always am! :)
