Poor Buffy! Such a sweet looking thing. I'm sorry.
It is the shelter's fault, partially. Pit Bulls can be dangerous, so they need to make sure each one they give is in a proper home.
I wasn't trying to offend, I love Pit Bulls and don't think that they should have the reputation that people automatically give just based on the breed. I think the same thing with all animals with teeth, but was only implying to Pit Bulls because of the conversation. Forgive me if it sounded differently than I was trying to make it sound. You need to be careful how you word that. Anything with teeth is dangerous. Making statements like that is what gives my breeds a reputation that they don't deserve.
The top 3 most aggressive dogs are Dachsund, Chihuahua with Jack Russell.

While bigger dogs may have more fatalities, that doesn't make them more dangerous in my book. If a pitbull kills one but a dachsund maims 15, it is more dangerous. Remember two of those 3 little dogs are bred hunters and the dachsund is bred to catch and kill its prey. All dogs are dangerous, period. Remember the media only tells you what they want you to know, what will gain attention, right now its pitbull attacks/fatalities. Its not telling you about the hundreds of maulings by small family pets.
Why are you putting such a bad label on these small dogs? Any animal can become a killer if it is neglected, abused or the owner does not know what they are doing etc. That also means that any of these "Aggressive breeds" can be the best friend to the right person. The problem is not the animal is the person behind the leash.

I don't think that @lunarminx was trying to put a bad label on small dogs. I think she was just trying to point out that small dogs can be as dangerous if not more dangerous than the large breed dogs. The media and some people in general always seem to vilify pit bulls, Rottweilers and other large breeds and make people biased against them, when in reality any dog of any size has the potential to cause serious harm or kill, you just never hear about those cases involving small dogs.
In my opinion it seems to me it's always a pit bull did this, that and the other every time I turn on the news and it's not fair. People hear these stories and just automatically assume all pit bulls are bad, and they are not. There are just really mean and evil people who do horrible things to these animals, and can you really blame an abused dog for not being able to trust anyone again after the hell some of them are put through?
I agree. All dog breeds are misjudged because of the media. Small dogs get the reputation as yappy and stupid, black and tan dogs get the reputation as more aggressive, light colored retrievers get the reputation of being easy dogs.
The point is we need to not put any generalization on any dog breed. Every dog is an individual. It is just as detrimental as steriotyping races of people.
