Hey everyone! A small update to my last post in case anybody's interested lol. The fleas are gone! We went to the vet and they prescribed us some medicine and it seemed to work like a charm! Like it only took less than a month for them to disappear completely lol.

But now for the topic at hand. It seems like we might a new dog soon! (If we're not getting scammed again lol) He's a husky pup named Max! He should be coming here in less than 3 hours lol. So does anybody have any tips for properly introducing him to my precious piglet so they could at the least get along with each other? Because I don't want to have somebody accidentally leave my door open just for him come in and try to play with her. Or worse. This is one of my main fears with getting a new pet. I mean first of all, guinea pigs are already prey animals so she's gonna try to run from him from sight. And I heard that for a lot of dogs, running from them triggers their predator instincts. And secondly, AFAIK, I don't think she has experience socializing with other animals since before my sister got her, she spent her most of her life by herself in that small cage in her previous owner's closet.

There may be a chance that I'll forget to reply. If I do, sorry lol. But rest assured, I will read these responses! And thanks for helping me out in advance! (Here's a pic of max in case anybody's interested lol)

Keep your pig in a STURDY cage with a solid lid on it. There is no way you can protect your pig if it's in an open pen that the dog can get to.

Do not let the dog near the gpigs IMO. Espeically not anything with a prey drive like a husky. Pigs need to be safe and secure and the dog should be seperate and not allowed near them. I would not permit a meet and greet. Dog needs to understand to stay away from them.

Please keep your pig and dog separated. Healthy dogs carry Bordatella, a respiratory virus that is deadly to guinea pigs. They can be in the same room, but no contact. And wash your hands between handling your dog and handling your guinea pig.

It would be best if you have a very sturdy cage with a cover up off the floor out of reach. Then don’t let the dog in the same room alone with your guinea pig.

I understand that you aren't getting a dog now, but I'm going to reply anyway.

DO NOT INTRODUCE THE DOG TO THE PIGS. Don't let the dog anywhere NEAR them. If you peruse this site in any detail, including the "In Memory of" section, you will see memorial after memorial of some poor soul whose dog got to their pigs. Why risk it?
