i'm not sure what it's associated with.... it sounds like.. "doy-it" but very fast.. doyitdoyitdoyit... it's doesn't seem as high pitched as the excited sounds and purr sounds u heard on the sounds thread.....

thanks
Mickey

I'd say either a hungry piggy or a stressed pig.

Does it sound like a bird chirping?

Sounds like the wheek to me which I describe as "Oreetoreetoreet" Does it sound like this? If so, your pig is hungry and wants some food pronto!

i hope he doesn't want food! He gets an 1/8 orange and 1/8 apple every day... sometimes celeray too... he also has his fresh pellets and timothy hay... all fresh daily... i also have a vita supplement for his water... so i'm not worried about mal-nutrtion... he just got his cage built, it's a 2x4... he is by himself for now.. until next week when he moves to my GF's house, then we are adopting a buddy for him. He also nibbles me from time to time... but i think it's just because i smell look food.. usually after i feed him i pick him up for a few... hand = oranges... :p

Don't you give him romaine lettuce, bell peppers, cucumber etc. etc.? Oh and I don't think it's bad to add things to their water. You can give chewable sugarless vitamin C tablets.

I'm afraid that your diet is not adequate, so you should be worried of malnutrition.

Fruits should only be given 2 to 3 times a week. Your pig needs at least 1 cup of fresh vegetables daily. What you're giving him is only a tiny fraction of this. Guinea pigs cannot make their own vitamin c, so it is our responsibily to provide them this through their vegetables. Go to www.guinealynx.com and then click on the nutrition link. There is a massive table which explains the safe and unsafe food you can give.

Also, we don't recomend putting drops in water. They disintergrate rapidly and can make the water taste horrid. (I said CAN, this is not always the case).

Just another thing! Apples and oranges are acidic, so they can cause mouth sores. Celery has the stringy bits which is a choking hazard, so make sure you cut it real small.

My pigs love, more than anything else, a big handful of really fresh grass. If there are any dandelions (leaves or flowers) then that's even better. They can sit on it, throw it around, chase it and then just stuff their faces. If given a mixed salad and grass, the salad always hangs around until the grass has gone. Strangely, none of them will touch celery. Just make sure the grass hasn't been collected from too near a road, the pollution is not so clever.

There are other ways to get vit. C other then veggies.... oranges happen to be high in vit. C...

I understand the acidic part and will work on more veggies

He eats mostly his hay, which is put fresh into his cage often.

I would think natural vitamin C is much healthier for an animal than giving them additives.

Besides, think of the enjoyment you are depriving them of. My girls look forward to feeding time because they know they are going to get romaine, green beans and pepper.

Food is a big part in a pigs life - don't deprive them on. The most natural way to give them vitamin C is through vegetables. Fruits are also high in sugar - so please cut down on them. Only give them 2 to 3 times weekly

Red bell peppers are VERY high in Vit C. I'm not positive, but I think has a higher amount than oranges.
The noises you're describing sounds like "piggie conversation". Sounds like warbles, or "mini-wheeks" strung close together.

Yes, they are high in vitamin C, higher than green peppers

Yes red and orange peppers are high in vita c. I was just told by my vet today when I was asking about the vita c tabs. Also I was told that celery was hard for the ginnys to digest. Just alittle tid bit I thought I would put in here.

I don't know if that is true... I know for a fact that some members on here feed their pigs celery.

Ok. Good to know. Is there things that we should stand clear of I know Ice burg lettus.

There are a couple of things you need to be wary about

1) Don't give too many carrots, because they are high in sugar and contain lots of vitamin A
2) Don't feed a lot of parsley because it is high in calcium, which can lead to bladder stones
3) Spinach should be limited because it is high in oxalic acid (I think!). Only give it twice or thrice a week.
4) Limit cruciferous veggies like brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower and brocolli as they may cause gas

And limit citrus fruits, they can cause mouth sores.

Thanks guys. Good to know for my vader does love the carrots and I thought they were good for his teeths. I know that they are but will limit them.

I don't feed my girls the celery stalks, but I do give them the leaves and they love them.

I have one who likes banana chips. I try to introduce different things every so often to give them a change - sometimes it works and other times they won't touch the stuff. My one pig will bite on the cage until she gets her romaine. There can be 3 or 4 diffent veggies in the cage, but until she gets that romaine she just bites away.
