I am in desperate need of one that doesnt leak. We got one (a lick something) and it drained itself in a half hour :/ Any suggestions? We have one (a super cheap one) that doesnt leak that I'm using, but I need at least 2.

Thanks

The problem with water bottles (and potato peelers) is that it can be hard to find a good one. It doesn't matter if they are expensive or cheap (imo) because they all can leak. I suggest buying several cheap ones to insure you will have a couple that work properly and to have spares if in case one breaks or cracks.

To give your waterbottle the best chance at working correctly though;

-First insure that the washer inside of the cap is in good shape and properly seated. If it's worn, cracked or crooked the bottle will leak.

-Make certain that the ball in the end moves freely and evenly and seats itself all the way at the bottom. Check the tube for debris as some pigs will spit food up into the tube when they drink.

-When filling the bottle make certain you fill it completely (no partial filling when you are in a hurry). Screw the cap on tightly but don't over tighten. You want the bottle to meet the washer without over squishing it. Hold your finger over the nozzle and turn the bottle upside down. While holding your finger on the nozzle to prevent water from escaping gently squeeze the bottle. The pressure will allow any air in the tube to escape up into the bottle. Release the nozzle after you stop squeezing and affix it to the cage but make sure the bottle holder isn't too tight and squeezing the water out.

-Tap the ball a couple of times to insure that water is being delivered properly.

-It is normal for the bottle to drip several times as the suction seal is created.

If after all of that the bottle is still leaking throw it out (or return it) and try it again with another cheap bottle you bought. If it seems that the bottle created a good seal but it's still empty after a little while see if you have a pig that's playing with it. Some GPs will play with their water bottles and drain them.

I have the Lixit bottle with the ball at the end, I saw the ones that have the little "sticks" (Not sure what they are really called) but to me, when I stuck my finger at the end of it, it seemed rough, or like it would hurt their tongue, so I didn't like those, but I love my lixit with the ball, it has a good seal, and it was around $7.00 I think. the other one I like is from walmart, I can't remember the name of it, but either way, it doesn't leak, and its a 32 oz bottle (my lixit is too) and I LOVE them both, I also have 2 other bottles as back ups, ones a critter canten (not my favorite) and the other is a Home Rigg Home brand (never heard of it before either) also not my favorite, but they serve as good back ups. I plan on buying 2 more lixits to keep filled and in my fridge for summer time, so they have cool water at all times, since it gets pretty warm here, even though they are kept inside, I feel like they will still feel the effects of the summer heat.

I actually hate my lixit. It leaked all 16 oz in less than 15 minutes(I figured out how to use it, But it still leaks). I by far prefer my WaterBottle brand water bottel(It doesn't leak at ALL, I love it! It's a bit pricey though.)

I had a Lixit empty out in no time. Maybe it's the luck of the draw with them but I hated mine.

I have two Water Buddies. They're expensive and aren't being made anymore but some can still be found if you do some looking. To me they're worth the price. I know that inexpensive ball ones can also be fine if you find the right one, but I just got tired of buying leaky water bottles. In the end I probably would have saved money by buying the Water Buddy in the first place

Try flipping the rubber gasket to see if that helps. The other thing I do is fill the bottle completely, slightly squeeze the bottle and put the cap on. I think it forms a vacuum so the water doesn't drip out.

Ok, I'll try those. The one that leaked completely in about 20 minutes is a lixit.

When I first got my piggies, I bought the most expensive water bottle, and what do ya know? It leaked. So I returned it and got the cheapest and it works great.

I have 2 Critter Canteens, and they work great and do not leak. I also have an Oasis water bottle that works well too. I really like Oasis brand bottles, because they are made with a more rigid plastic, which aids in holding a good seal/suction. JMO. If you can find Oasis Bell Bottles in a larger size, snatch them up. I have the 8 ounce size for my other rodents, and they are my fave.

Super Pet is a glass water bottle with two balls in the spout. Ive had much better luck with this over the plastic type.

Wow, I must be lucky! The only two bottles I have and have ever bought for my pigs turned out great! My favorite of the two is my All Living Things bottle (it has bubbles on it). It doesn't even drip! My second favorite is my Critter Canteen and it only drips right after you fill it up. Also, my ham has a Petno (I know - I got it for Christmas)bottle and it's great, but maybe because of the fact that it's super tiny. Hope this helps!
