Dear Cavy slaves,
As you all might know, I'm a first time new guinea pig owner. I have been posting for a day or two now.

1. I recently visited a website that told me that pine bedding can cause liver damage to my poor little cavy. Is this true??


2. The same website told me that wire mesh cage bottoms can give my G.P. sores on it's feet. It seems to make sense but I think it's not true. The previous owners of my cavy have used the same cage for 2 years and nothing bad has happend. The same with the pine bedding. Do I have to change my piggy's lifestyle just because the website told me so? Should I not take the risk and do it anyway?

Metal flooring is TERRIBLE, it causes bumble foot and is extremely painful. Imagine living on a floor of nails with no relief.

If the pine is Kiln-Dried(it should say it on the bag) it is fine, if it isn't kiln dried you should let it air out for a few days before you put it in the cage. Alot of people use and reccomend pine.

Pine bedding is okay but it must air for a couple of days buy aspen or kilm dried pine. Fleece is my personal favorite bedding

Wire bottoms are a NO NO thay can cause carpo tunnel try building a c&c they are much better.

What pellets are you feeding it?
Does it have timothy hay?
What veggies are you feeding?
It needs a friend but wait until you have a large enough cage.

I have been using regular pine bedding for 5 years. I air it out in a seperate room for a couple of days before putting it in the cage. It does have some dust, so I dust of the cage walls and everything else after putting it in. I personally like pine a lot.
