Stop handling your pig directly until you get better. I know from another thread that it may be possible.

I'd be weary - I've just got over a cold and I tried to keep contact at a minimum.

If you do a search for cold, there are quite a number of threads, which should be able to help. From my understanding they can only catch bacteria from you. So it depends on what's causing the cold.

I'd be careful just incase.

I didn't have this information...thanks to you all. By the way, my vet did say that they can catch an illness/virus from cats. I can't remember the name though. It's not harmful to the cats but it is very harmful to piggies. Even though my cats and piggy Fluffy show an interest in each other I don't let them too close to one another.

Most viruses are not transmissable across different species. But secondary infections, or any bacterial infections, are. So either way, it's best to play it safe. When you have a cold, your immune system is weakened, making secondary infections more likely.

As far as the above comment, bacteria (or virii) that are harmless to one specie may be quite dangerous to another. I think bunnies are the same way in relation to pigs.

Bacteria is passable between humans and pigs, viruses are not.
