I was happily browsing the funny things on ebay people sell when I came across this-
(broken link removed)

When my guinea pig was little he temperarly lived in something similar, but these people are talking permanate full grown pig homes, I dont even think theres even enough room for a igloo and a cuddle to be in there at the same time, they even drilled a hole so the water bottle could sit outside! This is aweful, is this what some poor persons going to bid on for her pig because its "Easy to clean?!"

O yes and these people pay 16 Dollars for a storage box? Wheres the hay? Wheres this pigs poor veggies? Wheres his toys?? Wheres anything?? I cant stand it when people assume theres all the neutrients vitimins and things in their animals food, so they dont think they will need anything more. Maybe they emptied his cage for the picture, but Ill doubt it, dosnt look like theres enough room to have anything to empty, plus his food and water are still there. I cant stand that people could be selling hamster cages on guinea pig listings by "accident" because they dont know which is which. I cant stand when people assume when something says guinea pig cage it's big enough. And I mostly cant stand that someone would actually avertise this junk. Especially with a picture of a cage that brings people to believe they only need some pelet food and water.

aww this is more like it...

That "house" made me sick to my stomach! If I can remember my e-Bay info, I will send him/her a note with a link to this site so they can be better educated! Boy am I ticked off!!!

O, believe me I agree! I dont have an ebay account yet, but if I did I would send over a few comments on that cage, I wouldnt even call it a cage. A storage box is still a storage box, no matter what is done to it. The perfect example of a litterbox cage. Ugg... this bugs me so much!!

wow, that is tiny! But it gave me an idea. I only have one cage, no spare coroplast and not enough spare grids. Until the pig was well enough to join her sister, could i house her in one of these? i wouldnt be putting the top on.

and mine would probably be twice the size

Sounds fine, but also drill holes in the side too, just for extra venalation (sp). It is no worse than keeping your pig quarentined in a pet store cage.

Yes that cage is HORRIBLE! I can't believe they call that a cage it is more like a carring case when you are going to the vet, or while you are cleaning their C&c cage.

Thats pretty!

then, what about a laundry basket! it would have way more ventialtion than a rubbermaid storage box, but it would be the size of the picture.

suggestions? comments?

you know what i just realized?? that "cage" is smaller than my travel carrier.

Just give them extra floor time while you are quarentining them. They will only live in the cage for 2 weeks or so. Remember that some people have housed their guinea pigs in pet store cages for years and they are still alive. So I doubt a few weeks will really affect them that much. Um what ever works for you, if the storage container will drilled holes work that's fine or if the laundry basket work thats fine too.

I definantly wouldn't go out and buy a petstore cage or anything like that just to use for a few weeks. Also remember that the first two weeks they will be scared so a smaller living area will probably make them feel safe until they get used to their new surroundings. I really wouldn't worry about it... Just give um lots of hay, veggies, floor time, food, water , and love.

true, it will only be for a few weeks. and isnt it true that when they are sick, they are not supposed to exert themselves too much?

I think and if they have mites you have to clean the cage a lot so you don't want them living in a huge area it will only make keeping them healthy and clean harder.

all eight, i was starting to get really worried, but now i have a perfect solution!

So what are you going to use?

probably the laundry basket. i just measured. it is 28" by 30" which is actually bigger than most pet store cages.

and the laundry basket has more ventilation
