Is it ok to put ice cubes in my piggies' cage? I put them on a paper plates because it was sooooo hot today. It was 83f and very humid, and no air conditioning was on yet. Plus I am on the second floor and have to keep my door shut. It was sweltering! I put a few ice cubes on some small paper plates and put them throughout the cage. One of my piggies was licking them. Is this all right?

well an ice cube is frozen water so I would guess it would be alright. I might be better if you put water in a bottle (not necessesarily(sp?) guinea pig bottles) and then freeze it then put it in the cause if the ice cubes leek through the plates you might have a big mess.

Wow you really do need to turn on your A/C as soon as possible. Piggies do not tolerate heat well as you know. Until this happens you can freeze plastic water bottles and rotate them in the cage to help keep your pig cool, and the suggestions above are good too.

The air conditioning went on late yesterday night; however, it's still warmer in my room than anywhere else in the house. My bed is over the vent (were moving it today) but mostly my door has to stay shut. I am going to make a brick patio, great idea. Thanks!

Frozen water bottles work better. Or a wet towel hanging on the cage, with a fan blowing over it, or a piece of tile for them to sit on.

We saved a couple of 2 liter soda bottles and rinsed them out. Then I filled them with water and froze them. Remove the plastic wrapping and there ya go! My piggies loved it! They could lay next to it or lick the condensation off the bottle.
On another note, Denise posted a good idea of making fruit popsicles for piggies. She took a shallow ceramic dish, put some oranges in there, sqeezed some juice in too, and added water, then froze. She said her piggies really enjoyed it.
