My two girls, Meimei and Beibei is about 7 and 6 months old. I adopted Meimei first back in March, and Beibei in April. In the beginning, it's obvious that Meimei was the boss, she gets to pick the couch first, eat first, a nip here on Beibei's head. and a bite there on Beibei's butt. She would rumblestrutt at her, but NEVER BLOODSHED.

May rolled around, they've learned to live in peace. I've expanded the cage into 2*5 and an upper level, and even though there were the occasional girl's weeeeek, but, much better.

Then, August came,.... ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE. Beibei used to be the sweetest underPIG I've ever seen, she's all whatever to Meimei's bully. However, Beibei jas neem picking on Meimei for the past 3 days, and it got to the point of "a rolling fur-ball." Now, I've never seen pigs fought before, it scared me bad. But why?

This agression is still going on. There has not been bloddshed yet, but Meimei is too intimitaed to come downstairs. There are 2 sets of food, hay, water and litter box on each floor, but the 1st floor is so much bigger. and Beibei will pirposely go upstairs to pick on Meimei until you hear her whilstle for help, then I run over, and..... Beibei rumbles at ME!!!

I am truly worried, and I really want to understand what reason trioggered Beibei's change??? Is there anything I did? I have not changed the cage layout of bedding? I am really worried, I've never seen Beibei like this. Can I do anything to change the situation???
Please helpthis new and very worried piggy mom!!!
Thanks all.

put a divider or something between them. That's ALL I can think of. I'm VERY sorry about your piggie problem.

Have they been treated for mites? Is either ill? If one is sick, then the other will notice and pick on them.

I can only suggest a buddy bath. They have arguments from time to time. I'd leave them be unless it happens again.

I betcha Beibei is having her first strong "heat cycle". All those hormones are making her crazy.

Give her another day or 2. Then give the girls floortime and clean the cage really well including the accesories.

Then reintroduce them. Put Meimei in first and give her some time to walk around alone in there then put Beibei in. Most likely it will all have blown over and they will get along.

This type of behavior may happen again, if it is Beibei in heat, but over time her hormones should even out and she'll be less nutty.

one of my girls, jane "purrs" and chases the other girl ,Spaz, around and bites her butt. what seems to be working for me is putting her in time out. i set up a small playpen and put her in there for a few minutes and when i put her back she's fine. whenever i catch her starting a fight all i say is "JANE DO YOU WANT TO GO IN TIME OUT" and she walks to the other side of the cage and leaves spaz alone. It sounds weird but it really works! it even worked on my fighting boars, which amazed me. now my boys never fight.

I think Voodoo and Ly are right on the money.
We called our vet on Mon and left a message, (he's there on Tue and Thu), and he called back this morning with the same diagnosis - probably in heat. He's seen the girls twice so far, the lateset in Mid July, and he's quite sure its the heat.

Like Voodoo said, everyone deals with hormones differently. Meimei dealtiwith it with binging on Veggies and peppers, and Beibei is just chewing Meimei's butt off!!!

Like Ly said, Nakamura also said don's seperate unless bloodshed, then we have a problem. Sonner or later they have to sort it out (hopefully sooner, hard to watch).

Actually, this might be selfish for me to say, but one good thing came out of it. From my previous posts elsewhere you all probably could tell that Biebei is the cuddly one that enjoys cuddles and is contented to sleep on your legs at TV times, Meimei, not so much. But now, Meimei craves for attention, even if she hears your voice in the room, she lets out a high pitch short note, and I walk over, and for the very first time, she will actuially stand up and cling onto the coloropalst and demanded to be picked up and comforted!!!
Wish me luck!

I know that you do this as well, but I think that these warnings should only be given via PM's.

The mods have tried that and it just doesn't work because many members either don't allow private messages or they ignore them. We try to be as nice about it as we can but the members pay more attention to us when they see it on a thread vs. pm's. Teresa has no problem with the way we mods have been doing it.

I think fourbwabby's and I posted about the same time because I didn't see his/her post before I posted mine.
