Could someone give me some ideas on what to do for a new cage for my baby girl. I want something creative and fun for her. I have been reading the posts about the boxes and coroplast, but need an example of what to do with it. I don't want to make a huge cage, but want something interesting for her.

Well if you want something interesting I suppose you could have an upper level which could become the 'hay loft' or something. There's nothing wrong with having a big cage, that way she will get plenty of excercise. You can make the cage fun by using accesories i.e. hammocks, tunnels etc, or by getting her a friend!! It will do both you and her the world of good.

I would love a large cage, but I don't have the room. I am hoping to make a medium sized cage for her. I really want to do a two level cage, but have to come up with a plan for it. I have looked at a few examples in the photo gallery and have an idea of what I want to do.

Sounds great! The photo galleries have helped me so much as well. What size are you planning to make?

I am hoping to make a cage about 3x4 with a second level.

wow, that is huge! She'll be very happy with all the space!

Wow, that'll be a great cage! Good luck with it! =)

Good luck!!

Wow, Good Luck!! :)

Lots of Love,

Em

Very nice! Good luck with the new cage.

3x4 is plenty big for one pig. In fact, you can get her a female buddy with a cage that size!

We have twin 3x4's, each holds three pigs.

Good luck.

Tub idea

I made my own cage and it costed a total of 18$. We went to Big Lots and bought 2, 1 1/2 ft x 3 ft Tubs and they are 1 ft tall, we drilled many 1 inch holes in the side for good airflow, and connected the tubs together buy using an old coffee can. The cage is about 9 sq feet and plenty long so the pigs run and popcorn all the time! There has been a big controversy about my cage but it's perfectly safe and the pigs love it. For the lids, we drilled large 1 ft holes all over the lid and put wire over the holes (we didn't removed the middle of the lid completly so we could have some middle to support the wire.) because the lids came with the tubs, they snap right on. It was easy to make and cheap! All you have to do is drill about 10 holes on the sides for air flow, a large hole on the short side to fit a coffee can (make sure the coffee can end is smooth and will not hurt the pig after cutting it out) If it's easier for you, buy a small (or depending how long you want the tunnel connecting the tubs) piece of LARGE PVC pipe, make sure the pigs can easily get through it, even after they are adults.

The tubs are also very easy to clean. If you can't have someone watch the pig while you clean it, find the lid to the coffee can or something similar to block on end of the connecting pipe. Then you can clean one tub at a time. I just dump the bedding in the trash, hose down the tub, and dry it off. Because the tubs are light, it's easy to carry.

Good luck! A remeber, the cage should be at least 7 1/2 feet for a pig, so if you re going to use this idea, PLEASE get 2 tubs and not one! the cage should lok something like this. Once I get pictures I'll post and you might understand better :p
