I need to find ivermectin, but no vet will give it to me without bringing in the pigs and paying a huge fee. If I only bring in one theyre not going to give me enough to treat all four. I am soooo aggravated. Where can I get this stuff?

I found some at my local feed store. It is for horses. Just use the correct amount for you piggies weight.

You can get it over the internet. Im sorry since Im not from America so I don't know an actual website, but in Google I typed in "ivermectin" and after days of searcing I found some.

So ivermectin for horses will work on them?

That is what they say to do on guinea lynx. It is a wormer. you can also go to www.1800petmeds.com and type in ivermectin in the search box. It will bring up some different kinds.

The guinea lynx link. www.guinealynx.info/forums/ go to cavy chat, and the page 2 at the bottom is a thread titled New To Piggies and Have a Scratching Question. Read that and it will tell you all you need to know.

find a local petsmart that carries horse things. they will have them that is where I got mine and I only paid 8 bucks for up to 1300 lbs. It is worth it. they run from 5 bucks and up.

Yes, horse paste work fine. You need to dilute it though with warm water.

Thanks, I just couldn't find it anywhere. I have a local feed store that says they have oral stuff for horses that I can use topically. Does that sound right? It's also forty dollars there.

Everything on petmeds is oral, can you use the paste topically?

(broken link removed)

I get mine here.

I'd rather not have to inject them. I don't feel comfortable doing that.

Do you have to have a vet diagnose it to treat them? I think one of mine might have it and I am also afraid that if I take her in they won't give me enough to treat all of them or I will pay some huge vet fee (like usual) for them to tell me she's fine or something.

You don't have to, it's topical as well. You need to purchase some syringes with removable needles to draw it from the vial, then you remove the needle and administer it topically behind the ear.

Lovemypiggies, you don't need a vet to diagnose it. If you treat them with ivermectin even if they havn't got mites, you will not do any harm.

yes, you need to get hold of some syringes anyway whether you want to treat them orally or topically. Kalrik, I don't think you can give the oral medicine topically.

I believe though that with horse paste you can only dose orally.
