As some of you know, I am in the process of starting up a guinea pig rescue shelter and was wondering if any of you had any ideas for the name of the shelter? Thanks!

Since it's something you want people to find and know immediately what it is, I'd stay away from anything too cutesy that might confuse people. It's like when people get personalized license plates that they think are so cool but other people are thinking, "What the hell does CU2 Z88T mean?"

It's boring, but __________ Guinea Pig Rescue is clear and to the point. You could use the name of the city/county/region/state. Or to be cute, something like The Pig Pound Guinea Pig Rescue, etc.

The Pig Pound, that's really cute! I could do something like: The Pig Pound, Iowa Guinea Pig Rescue Shelter, or something? lol

Name?

I think that a breif name that gets to the point is good. I like Pig Pound that is cute

Pig Pound is kinda cute...it makes me think of an animal being put to sleep though, cuz at this pound near me they put the animals to sleep :(

Yea your right. How about Pig Place???

How about the pig place cause people usually think of a pound like a mean dark place. lol

yeah, Pound makes me also think of animals locked up in small cages all day.

What do you all think about "Pig Palace"?

Ohh, I like that!!!

Re: Pig Palace

Yes! That sounds perfect.

I think "Pig Palace" is cute, but sounds more like a boarding facility than an rescue. I'd have to agree that a straightforward name is probably best and less confusing to the general public. I would stick with "____ Guinea Pig Rescue" as suggested before.

Come to think of it, a boarding place for GPs might not be a bad idea. Maybe you could do that on the side for a little extra money to help your rescue along. I know that the rescue near us gets tons of GPs in during the summer because people going on vacations don't want to be bothered with them. Maybe if there was a place to board them they wouldn't feel they needed to give them up.

Anyway, just an idea.

It is nice, but I agree with keeping it something simple/ informative to make it easier for people to immediately know what it is from the name. Also, I really would recommend using guinea pig or cavy rather than just 'pig' - that, or be prepared for some pot bellieds turning up! I always call my guinea pigs my 'pigs' and it does confuse some people - something you don't want running a rescue!

lol yeah. People get "guinea pig" and "pig" confused. On Monday when my boyfriend went with me to take the piggies to the vet, he was helping me do paper work. A part of the paperwork had a subject heading "Pig" and he thought he was supposed to fill it out---but they were actual oink-oink pigs and not guinea pigs lol. he's a goof...

I sortof like Pig Palace. But people might not know that it is a guinea pig rescue.

Good idea though! :)

I'm about 40 min north of Fort Dodge. When are you thinking about opening the place?

As soon as I can get everything up and going, are you interested in adopting, or placing one in our care?

I grew up in a town about 60 minutes north of Fort Dodge, called, Laurens, where are you at?

I live in Algona. I have some friends that live in Laurens.

I am looking to adopt a baby guinea pig! But I live n Vermont. If anyone lives in Vermont, or knows a rescue place for guinea pigs, or has some to be adopted in Vermont, let me know. :)

Lots of Love,

Em

How about Fuzzy Friends Guinea Pig Rescue or Wheekers Guinea Pig Rescue? Just a couple random ideas, hope they help! Good luck with your new rescue! Don't forget that you can post your piggies at (broken link removed) and www.petfinder.com to get more hits! =)
