Hi~
I adopted 3 piggies about a week or so ago......
I got that C&C grid stuff and made a 2x4 cage........
This thing falls apart every time i move it due to those connector things. Does anyone have any other suggestions. My fiance said he could weld them but then I'm limited if i want to change things.........how do I connect these where it's sturdy?

And the coroplast - cost me $23 for this 4x8 sheet and it's all flimsy and not very sturdy. How do you tape the sides? And I think the measurement might have been off - have to kind of squeeze it in...

I'm thinking about making a second level for the food and hay or bathroom area (these things poop everywhere) every corner there's this mud stuff - yuck. Someone said to vacuum it but it's all gooped and matted from the pee and poop together.
anyway - a little help would be greatly appreciated.
Oh - and what do you use or how do you make a ladder for them to climb to a second level?
Thanks
Kim

HI Kymmys30!

I just made my C&C cage last week. What I found was that the connectors are a guide, but not sturdy. I used those small black tie wraps to secure all the grids to one another. So one tie wrap per 2 grids. The tie wraps are made for secuding cables to gether. You can buy them at your local hardware store.
For the coroplast, I used clear packing tape on the outside of the corners to secure it together. I also use strips of velcro for where I want to open the cage, the doors.

For my second level, the cage came with a 2x2 pc of wood that is used as a support. There are screws in each end that hold the wood through the square holes in the grids. You can see the wood in the first picture.

My pee and poop in not muched together. The poop is like food pellets. I would think that maybe their diet wasn't great... Maybe check out the diet and nutrition forum for suggestions.

My ladder is made out of coroplast, I covered it with fleece and attached it with fold back clips. So I can remove it to wash when required.

Hope this helps.

What are you feeding your pigs? Your description of their poo has me worried. They should be almost dry like solid pellets.

They are hard little pellets (my dogs love to eat them)
They poop literally everywhere and pee everywhere as well..
They pea where they poop - all in a corner - well and what happens when something dry gets wet - it turns to mush

But their diet is collard or turnip greens, carrots and an occasional fruit,
Water bottle, timothy hay and the timothy pellets.

I haven't added any variety yet.

Collard and turnip greens should only be fed once or twice a week rather than a staple of their diet, and only 1 baby carrot each per day. Check out this veggie chart
https://www.guineapigcages.com/foru...cavys-diet-read-me-nutrition-charts-info.html
Its so useful. I feed salad greens at each meal, chosen from the yellow highlighted items, then I just add the other things in variation and according to how often they can be fed. The different colours make it really easy to work out meal plans.

What kind of bedding are you useing? Did you read this page when puting it together? if not it might help you now. https://www.guineapigcages.com/howto.htm

Also if you tie the grids together with zipties/cable ties as well as the grids they will stay together very good and if you want to move it or take apart the grids all you have to do is cut the cable tie/zip ties with scisors then when you put it back together put new ones on, they are pretty cheap too you can get like 100 at Lowes for like $7. As far as the Coroplast corners, at first I used duct tape and it didnt stay together but then I re taped them with packing tape and it works great :)

I questioned that when someone else in another thread said it but people seemed to think it was harmless. I'd still try to prevent it though.

The dog will not suffer from eating the poops. They are just veggie matter, dogs eat a lot worse than that and do fine. I dont encourage it but it happens all the time here. Just dont let the dog make a meal of it :)

I noticed that my boys seemed to like pee/pooping alot in a certain corner of their cage. They pooped/peed in other places too... but there seemed to be more of it in a certain corner.
So I took a small kitten literbox and put it in that corner and filled it with carefresh, and anchored it by putting a couple bricks infront of it. They love it. They probably do more than half their business in it and I just dump the plastic pan every other day. I need to spot clean the rest of the cage daily and change the fleece once a week but that litter box is great.

Maybe if you notice that a certain corner is alot messier you could try it.

Hi you could use zip-ties as we call them also known as wire ties and cable ties. I just built my second cage today and I used zip-ties they work awesome! My dog occasionally finds piggy poos and eats them. She has been fine although I try to prevent it as much as possible.
