I don't either! How disrespectful is this person?! $5 a day and this poor piggie (who should have a buddy) is going to end up dead :weepy:. And to call your piggie a b**** is not cool! <shakes head> poor baby.

Poor thing. I don't know why these people even bother having pets, when it's obvious they don't even really like them.

I was'nt sure if it was a joke!
I'd personally never leave my pet with a 'petsitter' no matter how many qualifications, testimionials, experience whatever ..just because who knows what other pets they are looking after? Diseases ect ..
I just would'nt feel safe.

When I go away for a few days, my Grandaddy looks after my furry friends :)

This is crazy! First and most important, what kind of pig owner would just dump their pig off to a stranger?? And they're cussing him out the whole way. Sickening and cruel.

What a pathetic person. I would bet big money that loser bought the piggie from a pet store. The names he called that poor baby were absolutly mean. Why even get a pet if you can't take care of it? *poor inoscent piggie*

I know! ''Newton is a 4-year-old male whose hobbies include blank staring and squawking when he runs out of carrots. Although he wrote the fundamental laws of physics in his younger years, he now prefers eating carpet to advancing the understanding of natural phenomena''

That bit made me smile and say ''awwww'' ..but then, well .. it gets mean!
I would happily have looked after Newton ..and kept him!
If only he was in the same continent as me!

I bet Newton is alot more intelligent then his 'owner'. :eye-poppi

Wow, how disrespectful to Newton, what a heartless way to describe your friend. I'd be ashamed of myself if I talked that way about my pet friends to others. Heck...I don't even like picking them up without asking them first. I'd be afraid to have a stranger watch over my boys, who knows who'll you'll get and what you might come home to. There's way too many "loon's" out there.

To me it looks like this person will be away on holidays for twee weeks at the end of the year, and he doesn't have anyone who can take care of the guineapig nor is he able to bring the pig with him. So, thinking ahead, he is already looking for a pigsitter, offering to pay 5 dollars a day.

I will admit that the wording of this particular add is not very friendly towards the guineapig, but it's only us who notice that, the piggy doesn't know what is being said!

I don't think this is actually a mean or cruel human being - why would such a person be looking for someone to take care of their pig so long before he actually goes away, and promise to pay 5 dollars a day for its care? Misguided - yes. Certainly.

I do think its good that the owner is'nt just leaving the pig alone for 2 weeks.
So many people think its ok to ''stick enough food and water to last'' ..doesnt work! Food goes off ..water runs out .. bedding gets gross .. pigs will eat ALL the food in the first few days, they don't understand rationaing.
Its cruelty to leave a pet alone for that amount of time. Worse then abandonment in my opinion!!

But does he have to disrespect his pet like that?
What impression does that give to a potentional sitter?

Poor newton won't be respected by the sitter!

This is a person looking in JUNE for someone to take care of his pet in December. That's six months of thinking ahead.

Sure, it can be a little offensive, depending on your sense of humor, but perhaps what seems disrespectful to some is really just comical to others.

He's offering $75 for two weeks of care for a single guinea pig. He's asking that the pig be cared for, clean, warm and well fed. Despite words that might be off-putting to some, I don't this owner should be discounted as a quack or someone who doesn't care for his pet.

It's on best of craigslist, so it's probably something that was posted last fall/winter.

And I agree with you--while the owner may not be exemplary, at least he/she is trying to find a place to keep the pig while gone and not just hoping it will survive until the owner gets back.

Ah, thank you, I didn't notice that.

I do still think the owner had good intentions. Or at least could have.

Another thing that seemed to stand out to me is that the pig's 4 years old, or so the owner says. Presuming he's had him his whole life, or at least a good part of it, it seems he's doing at least something right.

One of the problems with scrutinizing Craigslist ads is that you can't really know whether or not a person's creepy and strange or just trying to be funny to get more attention.

I agree. I have a bit of a sick and twisted sense of humor, so I def. saw the humor in it. What the poster said may have been a bit crass, but obviously the person wants to take care of their pig.

However, I'm not sure how the person is going to know that their pet is going to be well cared for... I wouldn't trust anyone on craigslist as far as I could throw them! But, in addition to sick and twisted, I'm also cynical! :D

I definitely think it's questionable that he's looking on Craigslist for someone to take care of his pet. I don't even completely trust my husband to look after the animals when I have to go away overnight! But different people place different values on their animals and their care. I think it's at least admirable that he's looking for a caretaker and not just kind of hoping for the pig to survive while he's away.

My motto is if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself! :)

My fiance and I were going to go out of town for the weekend, but (other than not wanting to spend money) I didn't want to leave my little guys alone!
