You mean you will keep giving them freeze dried veggies or fresh veggies??

Is your pet store pig in quarantine? Have you verified the gender? Have you taken the pig to a vet?

Let's see, don't feed the guinea pigs fresh vegetables because they could kill the guinea pig. BUT continue breed even though it could kill the guinea pig! Greedy, selfish people.

Im done with this. I thought I could ask you guys a question. Im sorry I did. Let me say something. Thats the first time I had got a pet from the petstore. I know its wrong. Its not the pets fault that its in a petstore. I feel sorry for all the animals there. They are tring to get the store shut down due to the way they keep their animals.

Buying them only perpetuates the cycle of abuse and neglect. And your pig is just replaced with more from the breeder.

If you wanted one, you should have waited til they were shut down and rescued one from the local SPCA.

And that isn't what you wrote in your first post - you went there purposely to buy supplies. Why would you spend your money in such a terrible pet shop first of all? And 2nd, you said they had all these "cute piggies".

I did go there to buy some food and bedding. I dont a credit card to order online. So where else can I get food for them? Let me know and I will get it there. All the guinea pigs there were cute. Just because of them being in a petstore cant mean that they are not cute.

There are many places that sell supplies without selling animals.

Not really wanting to get in this heated debate, I would like to say-: I used to have a guinea pig 10 years ago so I knew the basics, I recently brought my 2 guinea pigs from a pet shop. Since having my two little sows, I've been on lots of different guinea pig sites. Although I love my 2 girls, if I would of checked out the sites first I would of adopted some instead. At the moment I've got 3 more pigs reserved from a rescue centre, can't wait till I get them. I think rescue centre's should be advertised more.

Let me say something. Thats the first time I had got a pet from the petstore. I know its wrong.
You know it's wrong and you did it anyway. Wow. That it's the first time you bought an animal at a store like this means nothing. Do you also know that by buying that pig, you've put another pig in its place to be sold with no more value or respect than a stuffed toy?

Its not the pets fault that its in a petstore. I feel sorry for all the animals there. They are tring to get the store shut down due to the way they keep their animals.
No, it most certainly isn't the animal's fault it's there. Fault lies strictly with the greedy people breeding and selling them, the same people you've given money to and supported by buying that "cute" animal.

So "they" are trying to get the store shut down because of the horrid conditions and you've done your part to negate that by giving them money for an animal they've mistreated. To make any progress in shutting a store like this down, people have to do what they can NOT to support them. And that means not buying animals they are selling.

I feel sorry for the animals there too. That's not a justification to buy an animal there when it means giving the store's owners a pass to continue breeding and keeping animals in the conditions you felt compelled to "rescue" this pig from.

I know the feed stores have bedding do they food as well?
Generally, yes, they do.

Of course, no one said they aren't "cute." You've just guaranteed that they'll breed yet another "cute" litter and sell them, too.

People that are honestly "easily talked into" pets really shouldn't be allowed to get them in the first place, in my opinion. Living animals should NOT be impulse buys.

In any event, MilkingIt's suggestion of organic veggies is a great one if pesticides are in any way a concern.

They actually shouldn't be any kind of "buy". They shouldn't be a rational "buy" either. They simply shouldn't be bought at all, in the sense of purchasing. Living breathing things (besides plants of course) shouldn't be available for purchase.

And I know that's what you meant, Paula, I'm just saying this so the original poster doesn't think the wrong thing. :)

Hi, Don't know if this discussion is still going on, and haven't even read the other posts, but I think one of the safest things for piggies is to grow your own veg. Its a cheap and easy alternative, and you know there arent any chemicals or nasties in them!
You can just put the seeds on a little pot on your windowsill, in your garden, a conservatory if you have one ect.
Oh, and you could get a coconut .. but dont smash the shell, drill a hole in first so you can cut it roughly in half .. get out all the fruit, and then fill the shell with compost ..plant seeds, drill two holes in each half .. one on each side ...loop some string through ..and ta-da! eco-friendly plant pot right there!
