Hey guys! I brought back a mother piggy and her son home!!! At first I wanted the small piggy but I felt bad leaving the mother behind... so... here she is...

The small piggy, Poonpoon is really active!!! I really mean ACTIVE!!!... he'll run!!! Yes... RUN !!!!!!!!! I don't think I can catch him if he were to be on my floor.. the mother, Minnie, however is tamer... she'll sit there for you to touch... but I checked that she was also active in the cage...

Minnie, according to the vet at the shop said she's around 9 months old... and Poonpoon is around 1 month old... I got them kiln-dried pinewood shaving and Hagen pellet...

They're a bit scared right now ESPECIALLY Poonpoon... very hard to catch him... he'll struggle struggle... and stuggle... but I'm going to leave them alone for around 2 days before I try to hand feed them... I got them a box as a hiding place...

So, my question... will the son... mate with the mother?? *scratches his head*

Yes! I've never had experience with babies, but I think boars can get their mother pregnant as of three weeks. I'd keep them seperate. :/

Are you planning to get Poonpoon neutered?

I was planning to... but I don't know whether in Malaysia the vets are experienced in neutering gps... and 1month gp can be neutered?

Yes, please tell me they are separated? If not, chances are the sow is already pregnant again as boar are sexually mature at 3 weeks. Keep them in separate cage (or parts of the room) and wait until the boar is old enough to get neutered and does get neutered before allowing them to be together.

they were at the same cage already when I went there... How do I know if a pig is pregnant?

And someone told me that a pregnant pig which is less than a year old will have high risk of dying... is that true?

Do you have them separated now? You won't be able to tell if she is pregnant for about 5 weeks.

Any sow has a risk of dying, no matter what age.

I have no idea if you can tell if she's pregnant now.
www.guinealynx.info/breeding.html has info that may help.

A pregnant pig has a high chance of dying if she gives her first litter after she's a year old. Your sow has already had a litter before then. But seeing how she just gave birth a short time ago, it wouldn't be great for her health if she got pregnant again.

You can try finding an exotics vet that could do the procedure. But Poonpoon is still too young at the moment.

The other option is to keep them seperate & get them same sex friends. But that automatically leaves you with four to take care of. Edited to say: If she's pregnant again, you'll end up with more anyway.

The best thing you can do at the moment is take them to a vet & then they can tell if she's pregnant.

As what I told miccee, either separate them or neuter the boy. Option 1 is preferred as neuter GP got risk & the vet in our country do not have much experience in treating GP. GP is not a popular pets in Malaysia yet. Pregnant sow > 1 yrs old has higher risk to give birth. I've told you where to get cubes & coroplast. If you have bought them, you can build a cage & separate it with grids. So that they still get accompany.
