So there are two rescues in my state, mine and one that is about an hour away. Not going to name drop figure it our yourself if you care that much.

Well over a year ago, we only had Bliss and Nina at this point I believe, we took her to them because they groom long haired guinea pigs for $10. They did an AMAZING job (She had to temp live with my mom who didn't brush her. She got super matted and I couldn't get the mat out myself). While looking at their site we noticed that they had a male texel. He was gorgeous. When we picked Bliss up only their child was home, we got Bliss and mentioned that we would be filling out an application for the male. An hour later we got a call from the owner saying they don't adopt males to houses with female guinea pigs because they think people will breed them. That was never our plan, we would have got him a friend (male) and they would have had their own cage. But we shrugged it off, their rescue their rules even if we find them odd.

Now the last time I updated my rescues Facebook page was last September, I just never really bothered to use it. So imagine my surprise when I wake up this morning and find nasty comments posted on my wall by someone from the other rescue. That's right, they are so mature that they started posting snide things on my wall and my pictures.

They even went so far as to post on Jipsys adoption posting saying "well I see you got your Hairy". Are you ****ing kidding me? The other comments make no sense at one just says "How are those forms working out for you?" in a clearly sarcastic note when you see it along with the comment on the picture. I honestly have no idea what they are talking about. Yes our application is heavily based off a form we found on the internet because I needed a starting point but it wasn't theirs.

I think the reason it got me so angry is because they commented on a picture of Jipsy, clearly under the impression that I was breeding. For anyone who doesn't know Jipsy is the daughter of Big Mama. It broke my hear when we lost her. So to imply that I was breeding her makes me want to reach through the internet and punch someone. I know most the pictures at that time were babies and the only adult was a texel. It's not my fault that the back yard breeder they came from was a texel breeder! I had two pregnant guinea pigs both ready to pop any day and one that already had babies! There were no adults in the rescue because I didn't have any more room not because I was breeding the guinea pigs!

mamas thread: https://www.guineapigcages.com/foru...-t-words-for-what-I-feel-right-now?highlight=

If nothing else this has made me even more determined to start the rescue back up when I get home from China.

Seriously? That's pretty immature of them! Have you calmly explained that you are definitely not breeding?

I am planning to do so once I calm down a bit. I'm sure if I tried right now it wouldn't sound terribly sarcastic and much more rude then I would intend it to.

They know you're a rescue correct? If so, I wouldn't bother with them. Block and go along your merry way ;)

That's a good point, if they didn't know you were a rescue they might be sarcastic because ugh breeders, but if they did then its totally pointless and childish to make sarcastic comments on the wall of an organisation that is working for the same purpose as them.

It says right on the header of the page that we are a rescue group. So they might not have bothered to read it but it does say it in plain view.

Most likely will block them though. XD I've been trying not to make an enemy of the only other rescue in the state but it seems they weren't content with that.

It would of been nice if they were mature enough to stay friendly with you. Especially since there are so many pigs in rescues that need good homes. And more especially so because they're the only other one in your state. When's the last time you searched for another rescue in your state? I do hope there's another one hiding.

I would send a short but concise message explaining you are a rescue and any babies that are produced come from situations outside your control. Then just ask if they are interested in cooperating and coordinating rescue efforts. Leave it at that.

Yours is called Colorado Cavies and theirs is Cavy Care, right? I found another one: https://www.facebook.com/OPPOPCavyRescue

But it looks like there's pigs in pet store cages and there's one picture with a pig wearing a harness. I don't have facebook, so maybe you could message them and tell them this isn't ideal? It would be good if you could be on good terms with another rescue!

I messaged them with my concerns about the harness, and cage sizes, and informed them that it's not okay and why, and whatnot.

This is the response I received:
"A harness used once to go outside. We have bigger cages and for the amount of piggies we have it's what is affordable. Take it elsewhere troll. They are well cared for. Not everyone can afford cages the size of my living room, specially with make and female piggies.... Other rescues use the same and even use dog kennels. "

Personally, I'd just block them and leave it alone. Commenting on the conditions of their rescue will only escalate things. If the owner of the other rescued left the messages on your Facebook page, a message back explaining you don't breed might have been the solution. If it's a volunteer, it's probably not even worth the trouble responding. FB is a great tool sometimes, but it can also be a curse.

Wow. Maybe you should tell them that a C&C cage 3x the size of a pet store cage is cheaper than ALL of the pet store cages ever sold in store.

I sent that rescue:

Here is some information about C&C cages and why they are so important to a guinea pig's health and well being.
https://www.guineapigcages.com/
http://www.guinealynx.info/housing.html

Lastly, did you know that a C&C cage is atleast 3x the size of a pet store cage AND is cheaper is ALL of the pet store cages ever sold??? My 2x6 C&C cage on a 2 grid stand cost me only $80! If you really care about these guinea pigs, you will do the research that everyone else who loves them does and make their lives 10X better.

Thank you for formulating a better response. I never replied yet, because I couldn't think of a good way to say it..

I think it could of been slightly better. But it's certainly better than the rude response I had in mind earlier.

Is the rescue run by 8 year olds?
Rescues are supposed to be encouraging proper guinea pig care. They should be supporting other rescues as well, not leaving nasty, inappropriate, inconsiderate, immature comments on a FaceBook wall (and they call us the trolls, it's comical). My local rescue does home-checks, requires that she personally sexes all other guinea pigs in the home, and offers links to make-your-own C&C cage sites as well as selling her own. She uses C&C cages with all of her rescues, and teaches all new GP owners on nail clipping, fleece, etc. ALL GP rescues should be like this.

MrWhistles and Coughingcolours Congrats! That takes guts.

I haven't heard back from the rescue I messaged. They likely just blocked me....or maybe not? I can still see their page....

I do agree, that no rescue should be acting the way these 2 are acting. Very childish and not very productive towards helping the animals they are rescuing. No wonder there isn't very many in CO.
