huuuge piggy

I went to the local shelter today looking for a buddy for my piggy. They only they had one, a 7 year old, totally brown guinea pig with short hair. Female, mind you, so not a male like we're looking for. The thing is, she was huuuge, twice or even 3 times the size of any guinea pig I've ever seen. I thought females were supposed to be smaller than males. Was she just incredibly overweight? For a minute there, I thought she was a marmot, she was that big. She seemed happy though. I'm wondering if she is fixed whether she'd turn out to be a good buddy for mine (a 1 year old male of average size). I'd be afraid she'd squash him. I feel kind of bad for her because probably no one will want her because she's so old too.

How large was the piggy? They can get up to three, three and a half pounds, and maybe a foot long.

id still want it if it was male or near me . i think they bigger they are the cuter they are lol

She was maybe a foot long. It's her girth that was incredible. I don't know exactly how much she weighs. My piggy is probably about a foot too, but he's long haired and skinny underneath all his hair. Do you think they'd be ok together?

Well, they're all cute in their own way. I was a bit shocked by her size so I didn't think about it too much. She spent the whole time happily chewing on the sippy spout of her water bottle.

I don't know if she's pregnant, but that would certainly explain it. I mean she's 7, isn't that the upper limit for guinea pigs lifespans? I swear she's over 4 pounds. I'd have to modify my cage if I got her. She's the only piggy at the shelter. I think I'd better find a piggy that's closer to the size of mine so he doesn't get crushed. I used to think he was big...the humane society here has some more that I'm going to check out. I feel kind of bad for her, but probably she'll get adopted since there's so few homeless piggies in this city.
