Behavior humping

I've never seen this behaviour before so I'm not sure how to react to this. Snowball's the only pig in the house and two minutes ago I saw him doing something that looks like humping. When he left the spot where he did it, there was nothing there except for a thick layer of woodshavings. it is as if he was "air humping"?

If I can describe the movement. It looks like he's leaning forward a few times without moving his feet. And the movement looked strong, I can tell he's putting energy on it. There was a sound everytime he did that. It sounded like a deep whoosh. And on his back I can see a bump that was never there before that was up and down, it appeared on the butt end, shifted towards the head and disappeared with every hump. I'm guessing it's a muscle.

Has anyone ever seen this on their piggies before?

I have a dominant male that always humps the wood shavings when I put the fresh ones in. I'm assuming it has to do with marking his territory. I try not to look.

I have six boars and I think I have seen everything.

They hump items in their cage all the time. Beds, cushions, toys, each other, even ice packs in the summer! Occasionally, they even do something that I believe is either cleaning their penis or self oral-sexing. Many times they end up with boar glue on their chins or chests from this, so that is why I think it is the former (plus the noises). Boars will be boars! lol

The other thing I thought of when I read your post was that when they have a cecotrope (the soft poo they eat for extra nutrition), they will sometimes rear up on their back feet and push their groin forward, then bend down and grab it.

They hump ice packs??!! won't they freeze their dingdings? I'm pretty sure Snowball only did penis cleaning and not self oral-sexing, I've never seen any glue on him, ever. But yeah, the penis cleaning does looks mis-understanding. Although I can't imagine boars humping each other. Is that a buddy-buddy thing?

Thank goodness Sebastian is neutered. I could only imagine boar glue in his chin.

Seb always mounts poor Charlie. It's a dominance thing. I also give the boys a blankie that the girls have rubbed their bodies all over. Seb loves the blankets with sow scent. Nothing seems to make him happier.

Is it horrible that I am reading this and really want a boar now? Plus don't leave all that humping to the boys! My girls are always humping each other! Ok sorry about the tangent I just had to mention that...

Jackie used to make a complete fool of himself for a paper bag all soggy with GIRL PEE!!!! He'd rumble at it and strut in circles around it for over half an hour. I never figured out whether he knew it was not actually a sow.

Alton used to go crazy for that stuffed guinea pig they had at IKEA for a while. Him and Winston would fight so much over whose turn it was when they would find her in their cage, it was ridiculous. I kept thinking to myself, "Wow! I hope that boars are more careful when it's an actual sow!" She got so crusty and smooshed down from Alton's massive body weight that I had to retire her from their cage. Literally, she looked like road kill when the boys were done with her. I guess she was a really hot date!

Even tonight, I don't know what went on, but when I picked up Alton from his cage, he had boar glue on his left side! :crazy: I think it's better not to ask them what happened.

Luckily, the other boys in the herd are a little less sexually charged when it comes to humping items in their cage. It seems to be an Alton thing, which then caught on with his cagemate, Winston. So the two of them are absolutely relentless. I have to think about everything I put in their cage because they will ruin it. I have put fleece with boar glue on it in the dryer and it is NOT a pretty sight when it came out of the dryer.

Although everyone is constantly humping each other, rumblestrutting and boar stinking to try to determine who is "boss".
