Long story short, I'm taking my sisters/nephews guinea pig because.. "as usual" my nephew "lost interest". After a stern talking to him and my sister, I agreed to take him because he is soo loving. Couldn't bear a shelter taking him. This is my first guinea pig. And first thing is first! A MUCH BIGGER cage!! His current cage is that crappy petstore tiny thing. Yuck. Coroplast is soooo hard to find!! But today when out, I found a very large plastic tub. Not a deep tub, a shallow "under the bed" storage tub. Since it is soo shallow, we found the grids (on sale!!) at Kmart to build around it so he won't get out. I also went to our locale thrift store and bought every fleece blanket I could find. Some little pillows. Puppy pads, little food dishes, little kitten jingle balls..ect. He is going to have soooo much room! Air circulation won't be an issue since it's so short (but very wide). It will have a blanket on the bottom., on top of that, a shower curtain. on top of that, puppy pads. on top of that, fleece blanket. does that sound good? he is coming with a hay dispenser and water bottle, btw.

What are the dimensions? Usually those storage tubs aren't wide enough to allow for a guinea pig to run laps, especially with hideys, bowls, water bottle, etc in it.

If you're already using shower curtain, you won't need the bed storage tub.
If you're using it to hold bedding for a feeding area, it's ok to use.

Could you post a picture as well as dimensions of this tub?

I think I know the type of tub you're talking about..but I don't think it's going to be wide enough. For my female pig I don't have a coroplast base for her cage, I just have a shower curtain, then towels, then her fleece.

i don't think any plastic container could be big enough for a cage, even if it seems really big now. also, the sides can trap moister if they are too high. this link lists the appropriate sizes for cages: https://www.guineapigcages.com/. i found my coroplast at home depot, but it is also sold at home hardware and sign stores. also, your guinea pig needs a companion pig, because he/she will get very lonely (just make sure you know the sex, so you don't end up with tons of babies). i hope you have fun with your new pet:)

You can get the coroplast at home depot or any local sign shops. You should have sign shops near you you just gotta know where to look. I didn't know we had a close one but we do. It was outside of the shopping district out of the way. Like I said I didn't know we had one because it was that hidden it wasn't out in the open.
